Notes

Ran to Beaverdam Park (3.3 miles), ran on the trail until I hit 6.57 miles, then turned around and came back. I left around 8am and it was already 70 with a 65 dewpoint, and when I finished it was 75 with a 65 dewpoint (71% humidity). There was a bit of a breeze at my back the first half, and in my face the second half. There was full sunshine but much of the run was in shade because of all the woods around here. I filled up to about 3/4 full a 20 oz hand water bottle to try out, knowing full well I'd be sweating up a storm and I need to practice with it anyway.

From the start I didn't feel good. I just felt sluggish and tired. Hills were harder than normal, and pace was a little slow. The route to the park is a fairly hilly asphalt road, and the park itself is quite hilly, but the hills are short but steep, and fairly common. Thus, there are very few parts of the entire run that are flat. By the time I got to the park, I was feeling better. I felt good on the trails, and more importantly felt no knee pain. I turned around, took a fall at mile 7 (I hit a root while switching my bottle from my right hand to my left hand), and still felt pretty good. Around mile 9 I started to feel fatigued, and it slowly crept up on the me over the next few miles. My legs started to feel like lead weights. I've never been a good runner in the heat, and it was definitely taking a toll on my body. On the very last hill, about 1/3 mile long and about 1 mile from home, I had to stop for maybe a minute or two and catch my breath. I also poured some water on my head. I was rolling 6:50s on the road at that point, and I just needed a reset. I slowed down and made it home. A couple months ago I did this exact course, but a little longer, and I had to walk the last mile home, so there's something about this trail that just pushes my limits, which is a good thing. Had enough left for a strong finish. Poured a lot of water on my head the last mile because I was dying- must've looked like an idiot! I was completely drenched with sweat from head-to-toe. Might take tomorrow off, might bike, might jog, idk yet. We'll see what Ingrid wants to do.
