RACE

Notes

20 at start, 24 at end, "feels like" 10 degrees colder, will split difference for the winter contest and call it 12F. Wore wind under-tights, C9 tights, Helly Hansen shirt, Endura jacket, grey hat, blue gloves (took off at 3 miles). Wasn't hot apart from gloves, but was drenched in sweat at finish.

Felt pretty good. First time I've done this alone (Paul was sick, kid not running this year), could have paced better but not far off last year's mile splits, and a PR by about 18 seconds or so (still waiting on official chip time). Faded a bit towards end--last year I did a gel at 4 mile water stop and thought it helped, but today I simply forgot the gel. Had Gatorade at stop, but just a few ounces. Wonder if that would have made a difference? Haven't been using them on my 7 and 8 mile long runs, but those I tend to do more slowly.

Snowy and cold, with snow on trail like running in sand. But conditions usually suck for this race--pretty sure we've had snow on this course before, so that's not an excuse for not doing better. Tried to go as fast as I could without burning out, and certainly didn't have much left at end, but still feel I could have done better. Somehow.

Anyway, happy with PR.
