Notes

Rock the Relay! Did this with Julie Patterson and Melody Baughman, each of us ran 1/3 of marathon distance for a total of 12 laps around a 2.13-mile course. We each did two laps to start, then Julie did another two to finish her part, while Melody and I alternated laps for our last two each.

Couldn't believe my pace in early laps. This was even faster than my PR 5K pace, for the whole 8.5 miles. Course was a little shorter than advertised--they said each lap was 2.2, and it came out closer to 2.13. Or Garmin cut it on turns or something, which is very possible.

Did one fast .79 mile run the other day, and suddenly 10:30 feels easy--well, pleasantly hard. I didn't kill myself for those 10:2x-10:3x miles. But my 11:23? At that point, into a head wind, legs achy and tired, I was not going any faster. I am happy that I rallied enough to get the next mile under 11, but had the blessings of a tailwind then.

Good time. Freaking cold, though. We wrapped up in blankets between laps. Very windy. I wore C9 tights over NB shorts, Helly Hansen top with Go Girls t-shirt over it, white Nike hat, Kinvaras. I didn't bring gloves, but borrowed a pair of Melody's. Took off after first mile. I also wore blue Endura jacket for first two laps, was too hot so took it off for next two, which made me very cold each time into that first mile headwind. Live and learn...a lighter jacket that I could have kept throughout might have been better, Or even the Craft shirt instead of HH--I know that one isn't terribly warm, but thought with 40+ degrees I didn't need that much. The wind said otherwise. Starting temp about 40, maybe 43 at end, with "feels likes" in the 30s from wind. Overcast, almost no sun (came out once in my last lap!).
