Notes

Weather was ok... wish it had been as cold as it was the night before. It stayed partly cloudy for about 3/4 of the race which was great and doesn't happen much in southern California. We didn't really stick to my game plan of a 9:15-9:30 mile. most of the first half of the race we were faster than a 9:10. I just felt good so I went with it. Didn't start feeling anything until about mile 12. Walked for the first time at 14. Then it was all over with. I've never felt like this ever for a race. It wasn't a wall...It wasn't my injury. I don't know what it was. It started with my lower legs were starting to go numb. But then I just switched to pain. Bad muscle pain. My whole body hurt... legs.. back. I just wanted to quit. At one point I also thought I was going to throw up. My injury that had forced me to take the previous 3 weeks off didn't give me problems until the last few miles.... so that wasn't it. (less than a week after this race I came down with a mystery virus that did a lot of things including affecting my heart... I'm writing this December 1st and I'm still not 100%. The virus may have had something to do with this race being so shitty.... who knows) Miles 24 and 25 were slower than 14:00 a mile. I've never had miles that slow at a race. Matt was amazing. He stayed with me the entire time. I think if he had not I would have sat down on the side of the road for a while.... and probably cried. Oh well. This was number 11... may number 12 be better!!
