Notes

BIKE portion of Shorline Triathlon!! First Triathlon of the season!! Getting on the bike was a bit of a problem, due to the fact that my bike fell off the transition area bars. But once I was rolling, things were better. I had every intention of HAMMERING the bike portion of this race. I started out fast, and tried to push as hard as I could. I quickly realized that the wind was going to play a major role in today's race. I couldn't avoid that; I just tried to get low in the aero-bars and push through it. I tried to keep my cadence at about 100 the whole time. I was flying. I pretty much stayed at or around the double-yellow line, because I was passing so many people, mostly women at first, but then I was putting a bunch of men behind me also. I tried to not let anyone pass me, but one or two people got past, that's it. One guy was tailing me for quite a long way, and got up next to me and said I was pretty hard to catch. I just couldn't let him past at that point, so I put the hammer down and put some distance between me and him again. At the end my legs were burning pretty good. I was happy with the effort though, because despite the wind, I was able to average 21 mph. That is an accomplishment, for sure.

Transition:

I had a little issue with cramping during transition. My left quad tightened up bigtime right when I was putting on my sneakers. I had to pause and stretch it out before I could get out running. I did think about getting a quick drink, but didn't want to waste any time, so I ignored it. I grabbed a water at the transition exit and sipped one sip, realized that wasn't going to happen, and dumped the cup over my head.

I am satisfied that I am improving on the BIKE portion, based on speed during this Tri. Based on ranking/percentage of the field, I didn't do as well, but there was a lot more competition in this Tri.
