Today I just wanted to get out and run again. It's been a rough summer for training. Last week I didn't run at all, and the week before was kind of light due to vacation. I was intending to give this run a little bit more effort and start doing some faster runs because most of my runs in the last month or two have been pretty slow, easy miles. I intended to stay in the low 150's, but after I kicked out the first and second mile at 8:35 pace and then the third mile at 8:18 I decided to make it a progressively harder run. Sort of start off easy and negative split the whole way. This basically worked, with the exception of mile 5. So when I realized that, I kicked home the last mile and got in under 8 minutes. It didn't seem that bad today. I thought it was going to be MUCH worse, with not having run in a week and a half and doing a hard bike ride yesterday. I had fun. It was WAY easier going up the hills today. I have tried to kick some butt on the hill workouts lately and I think it's paying off. I also felt pretty good when kicking it up a notch and running fast. I am falling into a new form and it's working for me. Mid-foot landing, pitching my body forward from the ankles instead of the hips and trying to lean forward with my shoulders also. A great run.
