I met a local runner at last weekend's 14k race who invited me out to run with them and his training group. Today I went to meet up with them for a run. I had no idea what they had planned or what I was going to run. We ended up running 2 miles to a track and run 1000m repeats. Their coach, a 2:26 marathoner, prescribed 8x1000 to some and 6x1000 to others with 200m jog in between. I ended up calling it done after 6 of them. I haven't run 1000m repeats since last October and it's definitely a different kind of pain than what I'm used to. I used to do the Trinity 5000 summer races on Thursdays for the last two months, running speedwork is not that much different but today I had a tough time hanging with the pace. It was a great experience to run with some fast guys and I'll probably do it again next Tuesday if it fits my schedule.
