Took it out nice and easy, around a 8:20 mile pace through the first two miles. Dropped it down a bit to just below 8 minutes for the third and stayed at that pace for another half mile. I flipped my watch settings to the Virtual Pacer telling me I was about 25 seconds behind an 8 flat pace just under half a mile to go. I told myself it didn't really matter much since today was a rest day. But something clicked in that last half mile, a little voice in my head said absolutely not, you throw down the pace and get under that 8 flat mile pace. I kept turning it up and watching the seconds tick lower and lower on my watch until the time was 10 then 4 then 0 seconds behind...and just in the last stretch I pulled a about 5 seconds under that 8 flat pace and finished the run. I'm sure my legs will hate me a bit tomorrow for pushing the pace when I have an 8 miler to do tomorrow. But I'm at least satisfied with the day. Now i'm going to have a delicious Gatorade Stage 3 Recovery Shake and stretch before going to my girlfriends for some quality time.
