Notes

The starting area was freezing cold, but once I was down in the corral, it was so crowded it was easy to warm up. The race started pretty slow and it took me a while to get out of the crowd. I pushed the next few miles pretty hard which I would come to regret miles 8-11. The first 7-8 miles felt good but I knew I was pushing hard. I really wanted to build a little more of a cushion to stay sub-2 hours. About mile 8, my hip flexor started to tighten & things just got painful from there. I did what I could, enjoyed seeing the strip at a slower pace and tried to focus on keeping to my sub-2 goal. I had hoped to keep it under 9 minute miles, but I knew that was going to be tough with the way my hip flexor was feeling. I was able to finish the last .1 mile strong & looked speedy (for me) crossing the finish line. Moral of the story should probably be to train properly, but it was fun anyway. The entire weekend was a blast & the race was a bonus. I made the original goal of being sub-2 hours, so I'll take that this time. My garmin said I was 1:59:05 for 13.24 miles, which is a 9:00 pace, so I'm going to tell myself I sorta accomplished goal #2. :)
