73 and humid at the start with little breeze.

Running Ahead showed the map at 6.43 miles as it gives you credit for the mileage through the tunnel under the convention center. That actually translates to a 7:25 pace which is more like 45:55 for a true 10K. Went under the convention center on miles 3 and 6. I think each trip through the tunnel lost .07 miles so I added it manually to miles 3 and 6.

I felt pretty good on the first 5K loop. I knew I had to take advantage of the downhill on the first mile and on mile 2 you have to climb up the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge. I lost pace going up the hill, but still made up the time on the downhill to get a 7:30 mile.

The 3rd mile had 74 foot elevation gain, so the 7:37 mile was pretty good and then you get a downhill towards the end of the 5K loop and after a little climb get some more downhill, which was my fastest mile. I think some lost mileage in the tunnel as well.

Mile 5 was back up the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge and it was tougher the second time.

Mile 6 back under the convention center again where mileage gets lost.

Once I saw the downhill stretch to the finish I was able to give it a give it a nice 6:21 pace finish the last 3/10 of a mile.

Was hoping to be closer to 46:00, but hot, humid, and hilly is not a good formula. Maybe on a certified course without tunnels I would have been close.

The guy in front of me on the last mile looked my age and I was able to push ahead of him. 1st Place Grand Masters by 8 seconds, so that may have been the one I passed. I didn't realize the timing chip had to be removed from the bib and placed on the shoe, but they did have a final time for me. I'll take 1st GM.

Dolan took 1st Place Masters.
