Notes
Still fighting bronchitis, so breathing was tough. Legs felt pretty dead. Warm, sunny morning, too. Honestly, I managed to go faster than I expected to under the conditions. I stuck with my approach to every 5k so far this year by running progressive splits. Today, they were:
8:00
7:24
7:02
6:19 pace for last .13 ("emptying the tank")
The course is pretty hilly. The first mile+ is all uphill. The last mile is mostly downhill, which made my progressive splits a bit easier to achieve.
This is a fun race. I just wish I was healthier (and in better shape) to really open things up. But again, this is all on 15 miles/week of Zone 2 HR training (10:00 pace), so I can't expect miracles. Oh well. Next year!
Oh, I also got a professional gait analysis by "sponsors," Brooks, and learned that, according to their video analysis, none of the models in my shoe rotation are the appropriate shoes for my gait. I might have to add a couple more models to my rotation now. Clever folks... ;-)
