    Are you looking to buy?

I maybe be willing to discuss pricing at a time when a bib transfer options is available, and Marathon Scott gets his fat ass off the couch.

shit...I might regret that last part.

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

Has anyone been keeping up with Tour De France this year? I could care less about cycling the rest of the year but I always get hooked on watching every stage of TDF. The competitors the past 5 years have made it really exciting to follow. My sister in law was visiting this past weekend and commented "jeeze TDF again??" which I responded "I could make the same comment about Ashley and you watching season 96 of the Bachelor".

Is cycling still riddled with drugs?  Probably a silly question.

I’ve been keeping up with The Ashes and actually finding cricket more exciting in my old age. Plus it’s The Open golf weekend. 👍

Andy - I think kids are not as impacted by temperature as we are.
Also, your kid is quite small/short at this point, and shorter/smaller people shed heat/cool themselves way easier than taller people.
He's gonna be running sub 20 before you know it.
Re: The Tour de France, I'll be the millennial here and say that the marathon is probably the longest sport event I can watch.

WcRunner - me and my wife have recently developed the habit of watching all the diamond league events live. It helps that most meets are in Europe and at a very convenient time for us.
That mile race was very nice, but the 5000 was INSANE!!! 3 guys ran 12:42, Katir ran 12:45 for 4th place, 2 more guys under 12:50. The world record will probably fall this year.
It's weird that it took nearly 15 years for Cheptegei do break the previous record from the all time GOAT Kenenisa Bekele. During so many years guys couldn't break 12:50, yet this year 6 guys already ran 12:40 or very close to. I can't wait for Worlds next month in Budapest as Ingebritsen joins them too.

me - After a long while I'm finally planning some vacations. We've done a lot of traveling the last 3 years, but I was always working through those. Now I'm finally planning to go a full 20 days without opening my laptop for work as we visit family in Brazil next month.

To the Americans - Vacation is this thing that exists outside the US & A, where the person does not work for like 20 or 30 days or even 6 weeks 😁

And they call it soccer. 🤦🏻   I guess a lot of Brits don’t know anything about American football, but the Super Bowl final always gets some media attention in the UK….mainly about who is singing at half time.    I remember the Janet Jackson “Nipplegate incident” getting a lot of exposure in 2004.

I think the big challenge that football has had in the US is that the market is already very heavily penetrated in terms of professional sport.  American football, basketball, ice hockey, baseball, etc. all have really big followings there already.  Every now and then rugby union gets excited about trying to break into the US as a major market... honestly it has no chance.

Anyways I had a pretty decent week. Didn't really taper at all for the Xterra race today, other than going pretty easy on the track yesterday, just treated it as a Sunday long-ish run with trails and mud.  It was a much less technical course, with a lot on gravel trails and hard-pack, so it suited a trail rookie like me, although there were a couple of challenging climbs in there.  I came 2nd in the long course which was my best result yet.  There was a lead group of long and super-long runners that went out very hot at the start but I just backed off and ran it conservatively.  Ended up passing a lot of runners over the back half of the first lap and so I guess I judged it fairly well overall.

I have tried to watch some of the football but the standard is...challenging.  Great to see the crowds.

Mark - Second is great result among runners like that.  It also sounds like great fun, something different, and a strong finish.

My week - This week was geared around my 30 minute speed test.  This was something my coach decided to do after I forgot to wear my HRM for the 5km check in a few weeks ago.  This is a common test used for athletes at High Performance Sport NZ.  His instructions were:

Warm up thoroughly on this one, make sure you are in the right headspace to work hard and push yourself. RPE should be in the vicinity of 9 throughout this session.

Once warm after 20 - 25 minutes of easy jogging use the next 5 mins to gradually accelerate to a tempo which you believe you can sustain for 30 continuous minutes, but not longer.
When this tempo is attained, your 30-minute time period begins (HIT THE LAP BUTTON).
You do not need to complete the 5 minutes, this is just there to allow you to get up to speed.

During the 30 minutes, you may vary your pace up or down as necessary, but the idea is to work at your best-possible intensity for the full 30 minutes.

We discussed it further during the week and worked out starting at about 4:00/km and working my way towards 3:55/km then 3:50/km would be the best way to approach it.  My watch was showing 3:55 in the first km but Hagley and the trees sometimes messes with this and my first km pops up as 3:47.  There goes that plan.  From there I was around 3:50-55 with a couple of slower kms into the wind towards the south, and possibly a slight fade towards the end.  I had a dark patch about halfway where I seriously doubted I could hold on so it was good to push through that.  If I had to go for another 30-60 seconds I would have completely blown up which means I got out of it what I was meant to and put in a good honest effort.  Training Peaks adjust my LT heart rate from 174 to 177 after this which is a good sign.  I ended up doing 7.62km @ 3:55-56 in 30 minutes.  Basically a 19:30 5km then hold on for another 10.  I'm not sure if I'm more or less confident about an 18:30 5km and sub 40 10km after that.  Always different in a race though.

JoshWolf - I accept your different opinion. At least you're not saying George Best was the best footballer like a certain person born in Belfast that I know.

Mark - The thing is Football is as old, if not older than those sports. I can understand how it can't penetrate right now, but there must be some historical reason why it couldn't dominate a few decades ago. I suppose New Zealand might be an outlier as well, but pretty much every country I can think of Football is the main religion. It dominates 99% of the news about sports.

The whole of Brazil stops to watch the national team play in the world cup.

Anyway, it's incorrect of me to single out the US as a cultural island, that is the case with pretty much every continental country, for instance Brazil and China.

Steve - You ran pretty close to 5k PR and held for another 10 minutes. IIRC you were so close to your PR in your recent race.
Nothing is ever guaranteed in life, but I'd say you have a very high probability of hitting a PR (Unless you burned your chips on this workout).

me - A very nice week. The coach introduced a second workout during the long run, so the long run got shorter.

I was more tired after a 2h30 easy run than today's 2h with a workout, that is telling.

Anyway, progress is progress, one more week that went well.

Mileage is not as high as I'd like but such is life.

JoshWolf - I accept your different opinion. At least you're not saying George Best was the best footballer like a certain person born in Belfast that I know.

Well, I checked again and must say that I obviously underestimated Bekele's achievements, especially in cross country. I'd reevaluate and settle for a tie .

George Best was the first drummer of the Beatles, right? Or their manager? Can't remember which one ...

ETA: I'm really surprised that an easy LR is harder on you than 2x25'HMP within a LR of shorter duration. What do you think it's telling you? I don't get it.

In running related news I'm slowly jogging again every other day. My right foot stilll hurts. Months of doing nothing helped nothing. I'll just keep going and live with the consequences.

                            Happy running everybody!

George Best was a Northern Irish footballer I believe. Mikkey who's a very funny guy once said he was the best footballer ever 😂

It seems to me that muscular endurance is a limitation when running 2h30 super easy leaves me super tired, when I'm not challenged aerobically at all on that run. As in the duration of the run is the issue, not necessarily the effort.

It's something I'm working to address with all the strength training and these longer (for my standards) weeks.

I'm happy to hear you're back to some running, Remind me again, is it the top of the foot or the fascia underneath it ? I might be able to offer some info about how to treat the fascia under the foot (plantar fasciitis) assuming you haven't gone to physiotherapy already.

I've had quite a few sessions of PT recently (Past 2 months) to treat just that.

😂😂😂  Well the Portuguese press dubbed him El Beatle and he was also known as the fifth Beatle as he looked like a rockstar!
