Competitive Jerks Racing and Training - 2023 (Read 575 times)

Pretty light week from me largely thanks to having a cold for much of it, although it was definitely clearing up by the time the weekend rolled around. I did check out the new Parkrun nearby yesterday, and managed to set a new course record, might have to have another crack once I'm 100% again.

Two weeks to go and while I'm very unlikely to hit my biggest mileage year ever, I'm certainly not going to be far off it.

Mark - Awesome job with the course record at the tail end of a cold.

me - Lots of easy running from me. I've also started reading a book called "Strength and conditioning for endurance running by a Richard Blagrove. It's an interesting read so far. It was recommended in a reddit thread about periodization of strength training around the running training, which is something that I'd like to improve.

On the running side, I picked a Hansons training plan that starts around 60 miles and peaks around 80 miles per week that I found on the internets a few years ago and figured now I might have enough endurance to follow it.

I run by time though, so I've just converted each mile in the plan to 8 minutes of running. The plan is 20 weeks, I hope I find myself in shape before that cause 20 weeks is far too long.

Flavio, McMillan's stock plans on his running club website have strength training included. I skipped them and did my own because it was far less than I was doing. Anyway, he broke it down as balance, strength and power. I've been using that sort of periodization when I've done a 12 week or so HM plan. Balance-do a lot of single leg work. Strength, basics. Power, add in plyo.

I’ve never followed the training plans at the end of the book, but it’s a great read. 👍

I’ve been doing McMillan plans for a number of years; he specifies runs by time, but I convert it to a distance. How can you run by time anyway? You can only map a route by distance.

                And yeah, 20 weeks—ugh. I haven’t done a formal plan >12 weeks in forever.

Maybe she looks great without a mask?
