Return To Racing
The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails!
What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)
Good Morning Penguins. RR for HM is up. Sorry no pictures, my fingers were too cold.
Former Bad Ass

Barking Mad To Run
About 4 miles after work today, probably throw in some hills. Temp is cooperating nicely for an after work run, only 91 degrees at 5 pm with the 'feels like' temp at only 93, so not bad at all for Texas. Even the humidity and dewpoint seems to be cooperating for me, with those at 51% and 63.
FINALLY got the word yesterday from Arlington Cemetery that the date for my mother's ashes to be interred with my Dad's is June 17. My mom died in December and because of the backlog at the cemetery, we've been waiting this long to get a date. Me, being past military, I understand about the situation at Arlington, e.g., what the priorities are, how busy those folks are, etc. so I've been okay with it, just patiently waiting, but my sister has really been a basket-case about it all, so this will finally give her some closure, thank goodness. So that weekend I will be making a whirlwind trip - fly up Sunday morning, fly back Monday night - up to DC for the ceremony, see some family, etc. It would be nice to stay longer, but my co-worker is still recovering from her stroke, so I'm pretty much 'it' as the only full-time researcher in my office, so I have to get back. Dang, those airlines have a racket going, don't they? Even with discounted fare, it is still pretty darn expensive to fly from Texas to DC! If I had longer, I'd just drive..I figured it out, and if I had time to drive I would actually pay less in gas fees and overnight stays at motels than the airline tickets cost, sheesh.
Will go read your RR shortly, Jerry. Congrats on your race!
Good luck with your miles today, Damaris, and good luck to hubby too.
Congrats on the 8, Bin.
Way to go on the 6 miles, Margo, especially with tight legs. Good luck with the intervals!
Three runs in 2 days? You're on a roll, Awood!

Good morning everyone.
6 miles on tight legs last night, but they seem better this morning. Will probably do intervals tonight.
Smaller By The Day
Whoa...I'm running behind, but I got in 4 yesterday morning, 4 last night, and 5 this morning. Let's do this!

Howdy all.
4 miles last night. They felt very easy. The humidity was finally low, a nice little breeze, and only 84 degrees.
Today is a rest day. I was originally going to do a 800 meter / 1500 meter track meet, but my foot is still swollen from last week's 800 meter / 1 mile track meet. I broke the four metatarsals in my left foot in1985, and It tends to swell when I run short races, but the swelling will go away after about 2 weeks. No big deal, but I just need to be careful.
Personal Bests:
800M - 2:38 (5/28/13) | 1 Mile -5:54 (5/28/13) | 3K - 11:55 (12/29/12) | 2M - 13:00 (12/1/12) | 5K - 20:00 (4/12/13) | 13.1M - 1:37:24 (2/3/13)
After yesterday's RD, looks like a great day for a run this afternoon. Distance will depend on how we feel, but pretty sure it won't be 13 miles.
Scotty, that's neat about interring the ashes together. :-)
legs are sore today. Yesterday I dug up 6 bushes, replanted stuff and added mulch to my garden, did a 30 minutes shred level 1 workout with some extra leg lunges then ran 3m last night. Today rest day but may do some planks For fun ha.
Off to read RR

Traci
Singer who runs a smidge
Morning, Penguins! DH and I didn't walk last night because when I got home, Dusty had escaped the back yard again. He loves to visit the neighbors, and if that were all, maybe it wouldn't be so bad. But we have a lot of deer in our neighborhood, and if he saw one of those, he'd be in another county before he stopped running. So DH had been out clearing the fence line and figuring out where Houdini Dog was getting through, and he was hot and sweaty and grumpy. Then I bailed this morning, opting for sleep and hopefully getting healthy over walking. So basically, this week will just be what it is. I might go swimming this afternoon, though. We'll see.Jerryb -- good morning!!Docket -- have fun with your Some!!Bin -- woo-hoo for your 8!!Scotty -- My uncle was buried in Arlington, and it took a while for him, too. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful, though.Phillie -- hope your legs enjoy the intervals!!Awood -- A mama and daddy tomato took their little tomato son out for a walk. Tomato son was lagging behind, so Daddy tomato turned around and STOMPED on him, squishing him flat. Then he said, "Catch up, catch up!!"Dan -- are you icing that swelling?traci -- eek, what a day!!From yesterday: P3, what a great picture!! You look gorgeous!! And then there's Awood ....
And Bacon, woo-hoo for your 5k!! No worries, I have slower ones in my finish times. There's always someone slower!!
When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run. The only thing that matters is how we have loved.
Fear is a Liar
Jerry - nice PR in your half
Damaris - good like with the miles and weights. My wife has been looking into balsamic vinegar for both gerd and headaches. We have a gourmet vinegar/oil shop in town - we bought some honey ginger balsamic vinegar. You can do a shot or mix it with water over ice.
Bin - nice 8 - were you wearing the headband?
Scotty - talking about things being expensive - yesterday I bought a bagel w/ cream cheese and a small coffee and it came to $4.28!!!!
Phillie - glad to see you're liking the speed work!
Awood - good job stacking up the miles and nice job on your 5k!
Dan - hope your foot feels better in less than 2 weeks
Traci - enjoy the rest day and work that core!
Hopes mom - hope Dusty makes his way back home
Mitch - hope your knee/foot feels better
As for me I did an easy 4.26 miles last night after putting in another long day at work. Tonight after physical therapy I'll do 5-6 miles.
I forgot to mention on my way into work on Saturday I went past an unmarked state trooper doing 90 mph. He didn't even look at me - I guess it was shift change at the
barracks!
I'm so vegetarian I don't even eat animal crackers!
Hey Pengs! 3 miles for me with a couple of walk breaks, don't need to aggravate the knee or foot. There is a 15k on Saturday that I would like to run, err, jog, but maybe I should just go volunteer instead. Still no word on my son if he will keep the puppy or not.
Jerry, off to read the RR.
Bin, nice work on the 8.
Damaris, have a good day. How far is your husband up to?
Scotty, safe travels. Too bad you don't have more time, you could meet up with Rich, Jenn, or Dianna.
Dan, nice to "see" you visiting.
Traci, you are becoming the little workout queen, lol.
Hope, glad you found Dusty, nothing more irritating than trying to find your dog.
Morning, penguins!
3-5 today at the track, depending upon how the knee feels. In general, it's feeling great, but it did get a bit irritated over the weekend. So today we will just see what happens.
Jerry- It was cold after my HM, too, so I didn't stay too long afterwards. They did have tomato soup, though. That was awesome.
D- At least hubby might understand now when you are needed to get your miles in and he is wanting you to get back home?
Bin- Nice run!
Scotty- Glad you will finally have some closure for your family. June 17th is my DH's birthday, too. Do you have to miss any races for your trip?
Margo- Good luck on the intervals!
Awood- Nice running!
Dan- Good plan sitting this one out. Hope the foot recovers nicely.
Traci- Sounds like "fun"! Hehe.
HsM- Glad you found the exit route for your canine Houdini! Hope that takes care of it.
Hey Mitch, good to see you. Hope your foot and knee behaves, whether you run or volunteer.
