Smaller By The Day
There is not short version. I'm going to keep the entire thing short.
This was my first 10K, and only 3 weeks after my HM. Every race I've run, I've weighed less than my previous race. I've set a PR at every race. I've never blown up, or faded badly. Therefore, I decided today to just run like I was being chased by a psycho killer, and if I faded, I faded. My goal was to find out where my breaking point was. Evidently, I still need to run harder to find that line. I didn't find it today!!!
I set a PR in the mile, 5K and 10K today! Yes, I felt like I was going to either throw up, or my heart was going to explode by the time I started the second loop. That all passed, shortly after I crossed the finish line.
1 - 8:03
2 - 7:58
3 - 7:52
4 - 7:55
5 - 7:49
6 - 7:50
.2 - 1:31
Total: 48:59
AG: 3rd
Overall: 12th
My neighbor, who I just met today, passed me to take second in the finishing chute. He beat me by less than 2 seconds. He's a great guy, and I see him running around the neighborhood all the time. Now, we plan on doing some runs together. Those will probably be followed by beers. His first marathon is in October. Mine is in November.
The winner of our age group beat us by about 40 seconds. We didn't meet him...lol My last HM was only 3 weeks ago, and I didn't have a clue what to expect today. I had a great time, but think I can still run just a bit harder in the future. My previous 5K PR was in February at 24:45. Today I hit a 24:18 5K. Absolutely thrilled about that.
Thanks for reading, and thank you to all of you who have been posting. I've learned a lot from all of you!

INSTANT PR!!! I love it, Awood! Man, you are doing great! Tonight, you need to treat yourself. You have been working hard and you deserve it!
Now that you mention it, I'm going to get cleaned up and grab a bite to eat, and possibly a beer. Wish you could join me Jack!
WOW! Dude you are getting super fast, leaving me in the dust. Congrats on a great race!

Your splits are fantabulous! (ugh...I didn't think that was a word - I see red squiggly lines telling me it isn't, but I thought I'd try using it anyway).
Congrats on an awesome race and on making such wonderful progress over time.

more miles = more beer

I'm just having too much fun. I've always been known in the sports that I've competed in as the "power" guy. It took me 36 years to figure out that you can actually get faster, if you train for it...lol
Mitch - You're not fooling anybody. I know you could keep pace with me, and then some.
Ruby - I'll add that word to my dictionary. I like it.
Docket - I think I escaped this time, but I'm going to have to picture a faster one next time :-)
AmiK - I never thought I'd see times like that. I was happy to break 30 minutes in the 5K last October. I am really looking for to IMM. Hope to see you there.

WOW!! Amazing job! You PRed a mile during a 10K, placed 3rd AG, 12th overall, didn't blow up, and judging by the fact that this RR even exists it appears the psychokiller didn't catch you, plus you met your neighbor.... I call this race a winner all-around! Huge congrats!
