Marathon Maniac #957
For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run 40 miles/week or more. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard...
Here’s what I have for last week’s tally. Let me know if I missed you.

Holly thanks for keeping this up -- although I have not been participating, I have been lurking out here.
Training kind of fell of track for me last fall due to work and kiddoe commitment. Have got it going again and hope to make a strong showing at Boston in 9 weeks.
Here's the plan for the coming week (sorry, I start on Sunday -- getting that long run out of the way is a psychological boost for me).

Thanks Holly. I was sick the last half of last week, but when I woke up this morning (Monday) I felt a bit better, so hopefully I will be over this cold soon.
BTW congrats Holly on the weekly mileage PR. With the mileage that you run I would have thought that number would be higher. That says something about how consistent that you are.
Not at it at all.
Every Mile is a Gift
The head/chest cold is still holding on for dear life at the beginning of this week, but I feel signs of it leaving me soon. Running through it seems to be helping, actually.
Here's this week's plan:
Often injured, NEVER giving up.
Thanks Holly -- On vacation in Punta Mita Mexico [North of Puetro Vallarta] ... enjoying a chilly Pacifico [Cerveza] as I write this ... glad to be in shorts but the heat is so unexpected having been wearing gloves and hats since Nov.
Here's what I got thus far:
M - 8.1 [4.5 easy - too fast / 3 miles Tempo -- also too fast and a .5 cool down.]
T - 4/5 miles easy
W - 7 miles [8 x 20 sec strides / 8 x 1 min hills with full recovery return.]
Th - off
Fri - flight delays -- could fit it in
Sat - 18 miles [including a pride crushing trip and fall ... quick scan of the area to see if anyone saw ... sure enought, one of my neighbor's saw the whole thing --
Sun - 5 miles easy
Total - 43.7 miles
2012= under-goaled

Thanks Holly, congrats on your new weekly high..
CNY - your an animal, keep going girl
Hermosaboy - welcome to our little corner.
Somewhat of a recovery week for me. Quads took a little more of a beating than I thought they would. Soooo, this weeks plan may change as the week progresses.
Mon: 4 miles - 4.0 miles very easy recovery on the hotel's TM before leaving for the flight home, quads tight and a little tender.
Tues: 7-8 miles - 7.0 miles, again very easy, quads are sore but not to bad going down stairs.
Wed: 12-15 miles - 11.0 miles, just a little bit faster (normal recovery pace). legs feeling better every run.
Thurs: 7 miles - 11.0 miles aerobic paced, but nothing faster than 8 m/m.
Fri: 13 miles - 13.0 miles with a few at MP, legs are feeling better with each run.
Sat: 8 miles - 8.0 miles slow and easy recovery
Sun: 20 miles - 21.0 miles first 10 miles (8:25 pace) last 10 miles (8:10 pace) nice negative split. very hilly route +- 1300 ft. (legs were good enough to have run a nice marathon today)
total: 75 miles
Holly, I like to wave at my TM once in a while too..lol usually when I'm done running on it..

Thanks Holly. Great job on your weekly mileage PR!
The Ultra list is a mostly unmoderated mailing list, so 90% of the content is noise. However, there are folks on the list that have been running ultras since the 70s, and it is a great place to ask obscure running questions. Interestingly, I found out about RA when ultrastevep posted a link to the List a couple of years ago. Plus the archives can be searched back into the mid 90s for race reports etc. I recommend getting it in digest mode, because there can be dozens of messages a day. Ultra list signup
Here's my plan for the week. Time to push the mileage over 50.

This week is more of the same as I had last week. Half as many fartleks, but each is twice as long.
Bill
Planned 12 miles with 11 x 2 minute @10K pace, 1 minute jog recovery over hills!
This one went pretty well. Felt okay and included 8 hill repeats during the fast parts.
Overall pace 8:37.
Plan is for 10 miles easy, then 7 miles at MP or so (8:30). Extended it to 10 miles easy, then 8 miles at Tinman's MP (8:19), 1 mile cool down. Probably averaged 8:17 for those 7 miles. Can't say it felt easy though!
A good week.
