            Hey

Mind if I join in ?

A shin injury has me sidelined. X Training is something I'm going to get pretty famliar with. I like your quote Leslie.....I've always said...."I don't always have the answer but I can tell you what not to do." I call that a Schmitism....and you can have all the fun with that you want too !

So my plan for week 2 of injury

Monday - rejoined the land of the living by making it through a whole day at school; trying for a walk later

Tuesday - walked 50 minutes; I'm guessing about 3 miles - Garmin died less than 9 minutes in; felt super to move, but an hour later I was exhausted

Wednesday - cleaning as XT since I think my dusty house is aggravating my cough

Thursday - finally went running today - first time in two weeks - whoo hoo!  Walked 1.0 and ran 2.3.  Feel super!

Friday - the usual straight from school in PA to rehearsal in NJ Friday thing, but I walked about 1 mile to the boardwalk and back after rehearsal

Saturday - manning an info table at a block party all day - walked 1 mile of so untimed

Sunday - walked 1.5, ran 3.1 on the boardwalk after church and lunch with the perfect godsons and two of their cousins; carpy run, but super to be out there on an almost summer-like day

Summary - lots of untimed walking; walked 2.5 times miles; ran 5.6 miles - glad to be back out there

I changed the last 2 runs because many thought the plan was too much for the first week of taper,  including my sports med doc, said esp. with my . um. issues, to do no more than 9 sunday.  so of course 10 , you have to add 1.   (thanks nono).... hey nono.  did you notice that this week of taper is the same (essentially) for level 1 & level 2 plans?  I wonder if that's what he intended.   do you still have his email address?

very good job on the rescue & the education!!

wonder how nono's 18 mile race & Erika's marathon went.

totals--  29.6 miles running, 31 min. on the recumbent bike,  1 hr 55 min (:-)) strength training, untimed walking & stretching.

Nono.. that would be great, thanks.  I was wrong on the first taper week, it is different. but the last one is the same for all 3 levels.  would be great to know if that's right before I start tomorrow.   hey, I have viagra sources too!  Big grin

Paul, congrats on your 5K pr.... wasn't that in the middle of a 17 mile run?  You could mention that, you know.

Slo, I hope you are healing quickly, & surviving the process somewhat intact.

dg, I'll check for Matt's email address. I'm sure I haven't deleted his replies....just buried them with offers of Viagra....

dg -- My daughter and my girfriend's (also 5 yr old) son were out in the ocean and it was near low tide...sometimes we get some strong undertow going out.  They are too little and too inexperienced to know what to do.  We have an extremely gradual slope out, so my girlfriend and I had time to discuss it, and decide who had to go in clothed (I volunteered actually).  Her poor son got scared only when I got close, and started crying and getting a bit panicky.  I had to calm him down before I could go fish out my dd...she just kept bobbing along.  I dragged the boy over with me while I fished her out, and as I'm getting them in, my daughter's saying, "I'm sorry Mom."  My friend's boy is saying, "But what if you weren't here?!!!"

It was a great teaching moment, because I said, "Hey, that's why we're here.  When the ocean gets too strong for you, a lifeguard or your parents' help you out."  And of course we reminded them that's why we have these rules.  I'm also into NOT panicking when things are tough, and I was h*ll bent on getting the boy to calm himself while still in the situation.  I didn't want him becoming fearful of the ocean over one incident that wasn't an emergency (yet).

Anyway, the most lasting impression of the day was sitting in my wet underwear for another hour while they played on the beach (and also went back in the water for a bit).   I must really love these kids to have done that. LOL

Eliz, glad you are feeling better.  Well wishes for the Garmin to be healed as well.
