    Mornin' everyone.

I had almost a full post written, and then must have hit a wrong key and lost it all. I don't have time for a do-over - I have to leave in a little while for our monthly conservation commission site walks. After I get back, we're taking our niece to Portland (ME) for some museum/gallery hopping, a tasty lunch at Central Provisions, and maybe some window shopping (not that we need any windows...).

7.7 RW miles this morning in 37° temps, and late enough that I got to enjoy a bit 'o sunshine before I got back.

OK, gotta go, Have a greta Saturday, and race well if that's what you're doing today!

    Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

Jay - enjoy Portland - one of our favorite cities

Add me to the list of those with cold (no cough).  used Afrin last night and it left me so wired I got about 3 hours of sleep.  Fortunately, today is low-key - nothing until tonight.

Happy runs, pool runs, race walks, swims, etc. and of course races

Sunny and 45°. Nice change from the past few weeks. "They" are predicting our first dry weekend in a month and only our second one this year.

Have fun in Portland. One time we visited just loved the food.

            Get better Marj

TW - Newhart is great. We were discussing our favorite old school comics and of course Abbott and Costello came up as well as Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman and Tim Conway.

            Nice race Dave.

Tweaked my back on a travel week. Was supposed to run glass city marathon tomorrow but I'm not going to push it. So easy 10k this morning and getting better.

Got to watch kiddo race in a huge midwest track meet last night (6 national best times set in the distance races). He ran 9:35 for the 3200 for a shiny new PR. Fun to watch and sure am happy how his hard work is starting to pay off.

            Cheers.

Whenever I post a decent run, the next day rarely has a summary for whatever reason. Perhaps I’m a jinx.

Not quite as good a run today, so decent chance for a summary tomorrow. 13.9 miles at 10:12 average pace.

              Started running at age 60.

This is my last day in Texas. I cannot believe I still have not been able to get away to a top barbecue joint. I have plans for the trip to the airport. Not a famous place  but it does get good reviews. In workout news I did an hour on the elliptical.

Hope your back is OK, Norm!  Good idea to scrap the marathon.   Get better, Marj and tet.  Tet- yours sounds bad!

5.2 miles-  leg never loosened up today.  It's hit or miss.  This was a miss.  Glad the doc will work on it again Monday.  Beautiful morning, though, and glad to be outside in the sun and greenery.

Dealing with an extended cold -ala Tet, Marj, Holly?- but not quite as bad as Marj’s (she probably got hers from me).

                      Wise decision Norm

Another beautiful but cold morning. I did my longest run/walk in Quite some time along the Charles. Did 6.4. Ran well for the first 4 until my Achilles started acting up. Then mostlywalked the rest. The Charles was packed with runners, cyclists and spectators. At Boston University there was small regatta of racing shells.

Remember the Ten 5K this morning for me.

                        Result: 24:28

Weather did turn up being similar to Boston. A bit warmer at 45F with an east wind of 15mph and a steady rain. Good news, only had to run into the wind for 1/3 of the race & it was only 5K. Pleased with the result though I thought I could have done better.

                        Paul

Paul - permission granted, . . . as long as you wear your 2018 Boston jacket.
                        Have fun.

Thanks, but I wore my 2012 Boston jacket.

Just because there was no summary does not mean we missed reading about it yesterday, so, nice run!

                          Nice racing Paul and Dave!

Norm - good call.  Back stuff is not nice.

I did not get up early enough to run much before our morning plans, so I only got in 3 miles in 42 degrees.

First we went to the Dollar Book Swap - a warehouse full of books, CDs and DVDs, all for $1, and then to the 2nd Street Market in downtown Dayton - "Local growers, bakers, culinary specialists and artisans fill this charming historical freight house. Reminiscent of European markets, it's alive with vendors, people and activity during market hours."

Now we will be off to go to Cincinnati to watch DD's lacrosse game.  A good and busy day.

                          3 miles total.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Yeah, that happens sometimes, but know that we all ready and take note, even if we don't mention it. I try to do some shout outs when I can remember, but I frequently suffer from C.R.S. syndrome so it's just a quick comment on the most recent stuff I read.

Paul, you are a trooper to get out there again in those conditions. At least it was just a 5k. Good job.

You too, Dave! And I hope you do have a dry weekend. I get so bummed out when it's so nice all week and then the weather turns to carp for the weekend.

Springtime colds are no fun! Seems like a lot of it going around, although Tet seems like a late bloomer flu case. DH was sick last week and I'm sure hoping I don't get it. So far, so good.

I've had a tweaky ankle the last couple of days. Not sure what that's all about, but it seems lately it's a case of *something* has to be out of whack. Feels better today though. I did end up taking a rest day yesterday. Had all intentions of a trip to the gym but just felt tired so bagged it. Also feel better today in that department so it was a good call. We got about an inch of SNOW yesterday and while it's melting fast, I think it's going to be pretty sloppy out there. I think a treadmill run is in my future for this afternoon, but we'll see.

Waiting for my flight I read the NY Times piece. I suspect that the suggestion men see the race as a succeed or fail outcome has a lot to do with it. If you are having a lousy race, why burn up a marathon? Quit. Train up for a few weeks and run another race in better conditions. Since Boston requires a qualifying marathon to get in, the runners are among the very few that run multiple marathons in a fairly short period of time to boot. So we know many will view doing another marathon as a viable option.

Big zero for me today, I'm still limping this afternoon due to angry achilles from yesterday's track workout. I suspect it was the extra mile afterward to round it up to 6.2 miles. Lesson learned: get the minimum amount done, go ice it. Previous weeks have also resulted in soreness the next day, so I schedule that day off from running. Hopefully it will be OK tomorrow.
