    Mornin' everyone.

    Friday’s workouts:
RunnerKSA (2.1 pre-dog walking easy miles)
Tramps (20 bike miles, including a bit with a great blue heron)
Fatozzig (45 min of core & ST)
RCG (walk in the swamp with King Leonidas)
Holly (1250 swimming yards + 20 min of weights & core)
    Tomwhite (50 min combo workout)
Tet (5 mile [?] walking ‘mute)
    Evanflein (4.4 mostly easy miles)
    Catwhoorg (6 lunchtime miles + 5 slow post-work miles)
Twocat (1 hr on the elliptical)
    Mike (6.4 dismal, butt-draggin’ miles)
Spacityrunner (4 H&H mountain miles at sunset)

Thanks for the tips about dealing with the wasp nest. I’ll let you know how I make out.

Way cool about riding with a great blue escort, Tramps. And I can’t wait to see you played by a woman…

Sorry about the passing of The Hub’s sponsor, Fatozzig. But it was so great for him to hear about how Tom feels about him. That is fantastic!

RCG, good idea to let GS become who he will become. I think that’s great. Good luck to the RS at his ortho app’t. Blaine too.

    Great pool work, Holly.

    And great combo, Tomwhite.

I love that Tet signed up for the SuperSprint! Go get ‘em!

You’re making me jealous with those Icelandic photos, Marj!

Sorry, Evanflein, but I can’t even think of snow in August.

Good luck in your crazy-distance race today, Twocat.

You've got a pretty loose definition of "running distance," don't you, Mike?

I’ve got a RW training session this morning, and fully expect/hope the rain will stop by then. I’ll try to put in at least 3 EZ miles, but we have a newbie coming, so I may have to spend my time coaching. I also signed up for a 5-miler in RI tomorrow that is a feature race for the 65+ Running Club. It’s a 2.4 hour drive, and it starts at 9, so I'll be leaving early. DW is going to stay home and sleep in. Odd…

    Have a greta Saturday!

    Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

Drove to Michigan to pickup my granddaughter from her northern grandparents. Brought her back to WV, then took her home to Tallahassee. Got home yesterday after a 13.5 hour day on the road.  5 days and 2423.8 total miles.

I should get out and do something to work up a sweat. It would probably make me feel better. I'm just not sure if I will get up enough energy to do that.

mta: Went to the gym and got the heart rate up on the ARC trainer.  Remind my body that there is more to life than sitting in a car all day.

I am really over this humidity.  14.1 miles that didn't go particularly well, but it's done.  Started with the local running group and no one was my pace, so I was by myself for 5 miles.  That's OK- it's my normal route on the path for the most part.  A guy who had gone out too fast was resting at the turnaround and we did his run 5 /walk 1 intervals for the next 6 miles.  His run pace was a little faster than I wanted to go, but I did it anyway.  I was pretty trashed by 11, and he stopped to refuel at his car before doing 5 more.  I kept going for my 3 more and it wasn't pretty.  Lots more walking, but I got it done.  35 seconds a mile slower than last week when it was cooler and not humid.  Weather really does make a difference.

My daughter is out of the water and out on the bike course now at USTriathlon Nationals (Olympic Distance) in Omaha.  The tracker for the race is excellent (at least so far) and far better than the Ironman trackers.

Jay -2.4 hours is a long way to drive for a 5-mile race.  I admit I would probably be with your DW on the sleeping in thing....

6.6 miles for me this morning in 70ish degrees with bright sun but relatively low humidity.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Made it to Wyoming yesterday. End of the ride for me with a little over 1,000 miles on the bicycle for the journey.

Nope, not riding the bike back. This SAG car was only going halfway, a new SAG car will finish the trip. I'm catching a ride back with the SAG returning to Oklahoma.

Sorry, Evanflein, but I can’t even think of snow in August.

Well for what it's worth, Jay, neither can I! The Brooks Range is pretty far north of us. Sort of the dividing line for practical purposes of the arctic vs. the Interior for Alaska. We just got rain all night, and it's mid-50's and cloudy now at 10 a.m., but the rain has stopped.

Wow, Paul. Just wow. Heh, Mike, that's what I was thinking too. "Time to go back!" Like Forrest Gump "I'm kind of tired. I think I'll go home now." Glad you've got a vehicle for the return trip!

Leslie, so sorry to hear about the loss of Shorty's sponsor. That's tough, and I hope he deals with it ok.

DH headed to Denver today for his conference in Keystone. Same conference that I accompanied him to a couple times, including the time I ran the Revel Rockies marathon. No such luck this time though, so he's on his own. DS1 and his DW (formerly DIL2B) bought a car in Seattle that was on eBay but nobody got it that way. DH contacted the seller and said there were interested buyers in AK, would they sell it for a little under the asking price? They agreed, and DH basically bought the car for licensing and insurance purposes (using the kids' money) then he'll transfer it to them when he gets back next week. Yup, he changed his flight to stop in Seattle, and will drive the new (to them) Passat up the Alcan. Should be quite the adventure, wish I could go along!

But since DH left at midnight last night, that means someone (ahem) has to go get the truck from the airport. So, that'll be my run today: at least 14 miles and can stretch it to 16 if I go the long way around. Just as well to do long run today as forecast tomorrow isn't very nice.

It's Saturday, I'm at work for most of the day, it's drizzly, and there's a horny little chirpy dude outside my window who WONT FREAKING STOP CHIRPING!!  He's been like that all week.

*sigh* Can't wait for our vacay in October.

Paul - 1,000 miles?  My butt hurts even more thinking about it.

TW, I'm re-reading Suttree and enjoying it even more the 2nd time through. I hope Knoxville looks a bit better these days...

Holy smokes, Dave! I couldn't do that much driving these days. Interesting but sensible signage, too, as I guess the path cuts right across I-75.

Erika, would Peter like some company? One way I could actually get up there, but getting back could be a problem!

I've been AWOL from the forum again, but have been doing more cycling than running lately and this site isn't called CyclingAhead. But today I did run a 5K -- my 5th of the year -- that I'll write up in more detail when the weekend RR thread gets started (I'm not authorized for that). It was a first-time event over at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base to celebrate their 100th anniversary of continual operation (yes, it was established in 1917 at the dawn of the military aircraft era!). I came in 2nd of 4 in my AG (70+) and was 60 of about 200 overall. I was just 30 seconds behind my friend and nemesis "Dr. Mike" and 3 minutes ahead of the next finisher in my AG.

Out of 5 5Ks this year, I haven't finished lower than 3rd, but I'd better enjoy it as I gradually slow down year by year.

Good running and racing to the rest of you as well!

                            Paul - Wow!

Erika - Google says that is a 41-hour drive.  Yikes!

I spent the afternoon helping DH install security cameras on the outside of the house.  Then it came time to run the wire. I got up in the attic crawl space, which was about a zillion degrees, balanced on my hands and knees on beams, breathing in the insulation, crawled out on my face to the place where the roof beams meet the overhang, and couldn't reach far enough to get to the wires from the cameras we had mounted outside.  Drat.  Tomorrow we will go at it again and try to figure it out.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Nice mileage, Paul!  The trip looked wonderful.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.
