Marathon Maniac #957
For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run 40 miles/week or more. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard...
Sorry folks, I don’t have time to do a tally for last week. Anyone else have time to do it? If not, I’ll jump back in next week.
Here’s my tentative plan for the week. We're vacationing in West Virginia, so I'll have to play it by ear. I'm taking my running stuff, but don't want my running to get in the way of family activities.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

This will be a cutback week this week. The two hard workouts a week will continue but the other days will be shorter and easier.

8 with 5 or 6 1KM repeats at tempo
6.05 miles at GA pace (9:07 overall). Three miles sub-9

Thanks, Holly and Bill.
Taking a cutback week here -- my knees are starting to complain a bit, and I really want this cold to go away.

Thank you for keeping this going...
Hope you have a wonderful vacation...
Last week worked pretty well, so I will try it again...
I ended up feeling pretty good at the end of the week... The long run didn't leave me tired or sore, and the Sunday run I felt pretty darn good...
Looking forward to next week to see if the whole week can feel as good or better...

Thanks Holly and Burgerman,
Got back home last last evening after a great vacation of running, hiking, kayaking, beer drinking and food eating. Well, plus a few other things too.
Last weeks total: 64.4 miles including the Frank Maier Marathon in 3:37:48. (official times have not been posted yet). Looks like I was 4th male master and 10th overall out of a field of about 45. Beautiful running weather, breath taking scenery (views of a glacier and lots of mountains), good running company and a great BBQ afterwards with lots of food.
This week is a recovery week
Mon: 7.0 miles at a nice easy pace, some hills, legs tired but no soreness. 4 hrs of kayaking (approx 8 miles) was within 200 yards of 8-9 humpback whales while they were bubble net fishing. awesome creatures when your at water level with them. Takes on a whole new meaning..
Tues: 7.0 miles slightly faster pace than yeasterday along the same route (through town and along the water). 5 hrs hiking along the Mendenhall glacier and above Juneau.
Wed: 5.0 miles at a nice relaxed pace. flew home.
Thurs: 7.0 miles at an aerobic pace. legs felt like lead after a couple of miles.
Fri: 8-9 miles - 9.0 recovery miles, slow and easy
Sat: 5-7 miles - 9.0 miles still at a recovery pace but, just a little faster than yesterday.
Sun: 13-15 miles - 14.0 miles, progession run, starting off slow and with each mile faster than the last one finishing at an aerobic effort.
Total: 58 miles
