Marathon Maniac #3309

good lord...Dopple Bock posted this in Carolyn's April Master Runs... 509 in April (7:38 avg pace) 1887 YTD (7:41 avg pace) At that rate, he will have aound 5700 miles for the year ... Shocked Tim

Running has given me the courage to start, the determination to keep trying, and the childlike spirit to have fun along the way - Run often and run long, but never outrun your Joy of running!

Dinner with Twocat Report: First, I pick him up...but I have no car, because I lost it. We wander the streets of the south university neighborhood until I find where I parked it. Embarrassed Heck, though, he's a professor so he knows this is standard behavior. Then I drive him around and show him the pretty rhododendrons and other Spring foliage at Hendricks park and various jogging paths....twocat talks and talks, and when I talk, it's like..."yes, I --" "but what -- " and so forth. Getting a word in edgewise is a real challenge! I'm not sure he saw the flowers, even! I showed him Prefontaine's car crash site (with all the bibs and medals adoring fans have placed on the stone marker...hokey, yes, but heartfelt), and he's like, "Pre who?" I made the mistake of saying I need to lose a few lbs to get to "BQ weight" -- that is, I said this BEFORE dinner, so twocat (one of those "oh, I just stop eating when I need to lose a few" people) watches my dinner consumption with a critical eye. I admit, I was really pushing it when I tried to grab his last steamed clam from the bowl. (But hey, it was delicious and worth the fight.) All in all, he was a delightful dinner companion and great fun to discuss past & future marathon plans with. Now he has to give his seminar, so I wish him well today. After that, the host department is giving him the Royal Tour, with a trip to the Coast and a local winery....how cool is that? Thanks, twocat! Come back & run the marathon someday, OK?

Big grin Thanks for the report, Econo! I'll be seeing you at the Seattle R&R, won't I?

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

          Dinner with Twocat Report:
That's so cool Econo. And isn't it amazing how brash kid from Coos Bay (where the hell is that?) can become so Iconic.
Hi SLO! Hey, Holly, I've been watching the Seattle Rn'R preparations with much teeth-gnashing envy -- that is the weekend I have to be at a meeting in DC! Gah! All of you are going to have a super-fun time. Cry

sounds like a great dinner Econo! No R&R for you eh? I was all prepared to swoop by your place and kidnap you on my way up too! Cry I was looking at my training log for April and realized that I forgot to input Wednesday's run of 3.5 miles, so I actually have 99.5 miles for April, instead of the 96 I reported on the mileage thread. Dang - if I would have known I was THAT close to 100 I would have run another 1/2 mile last night! grrrrrr Angry rest day for me today and then I have a big mileage weekend (for me) in store. 5 mile race tomorrow a.m. (which I will not sandbag or race - it'll just be a run!), and then 15 mile long run on Sunday - in the cool damp air. We are forecasted for light rain off and on for the next 5 days and I'm actually looking forward to running in that. My dry cough needs to go away so I'm hoping breathing in that damp air will help it. Have fun Eugene racers and partiers! And good luck to ALL those racing this weekend!

. . . Coos Bay (where the hell is that?)
About 4 hours north of me! Beautiful coastal drive from here. Econo - Big grin Great dinner report! Mary - What a sweet baby. Looks like he's giving you the Dead about the cereal, though. Wink Question - they're momma doesn't nurse them? An hour of strength/core this a.m. whilst watching "For Love of the Game," one of my all time favorite movies (great soundtrack). I don't know why, but I have not been able to pull myself together enough to get up for that extra half hour twice a week to ride my stationary bike. However, after my trail run next weekend, I have to pull my head out of my - well, you know - get more serious. Evil grin Have a great weekend, everyone!

Econo - just like you to lose your car! I will look for Two Cat running on the streets of Florence when I go through on my way to Eugene. Wink . See you at the starting line - also, since you really like to eat, I will be at the Hilton about 4:00PM. today. Hint, hint! I've had a runny nose, but am better, and plan to run the good race tomorrow. Yep, Slo Hand (a musician, like me): Coos Bay is THE Pre place. I could barely even walk up Agony Hill, let alone run! fatozzia, Coos Bay is 1hr, 15 min from my house North of there. Do you ever run there? Come on up! Woods Lady Love the puppy!

Why did someone move Econo's car?? She should get lo-jack installed. Big grin

You're south of Coos Bay? Where? I'm in Eureka. If you or Tammy let me know far enough in advance, I could definitely come up for a race some time. Would be fun! I've never had the opportunity to meet any RA folks. Missed Carol over on the 40s thread bythismuch right before we went on vacation.

Oh that is shades of my family...when I was a kid we were driving through one of the shore towns and we saw my sister's car. My Dad said, "Hey, I have the keys." He got out, moved it around the block and reparked it. Happened to me too once when they came to visit me at college unannounced. Most recenlty, about 3 years ago, my Dad was at the casinos in AC, and we were dropping my Mom back off. We somehow managed to park near Dad's car in one of those big garages, and Mom says, "I have Dad's keys." My husband thought my Mom and I a bit off as we giggled and reparked the car a half level away. A few hours later when we all came out of the casino after dining and gambling, my Dad's reaction was priceless. He howled with laughter once he figured out what was going on... Then my husband got it and Big grin like mad. It's fun to mess with people who will not be angry about the joke! Now I realize I've passed this little bit of silliness onto my husband, so I fully expect to get "car punked" anytime now. My poor husband got sick last night and is sick today still-- he's sneaking in a nap before his next conference calls. I'm jamming together last night's run with todays for a sporty 10ish miles later. Too hot for Renee to do them all so I'll do a bowtie run and pick her up on the second half.

60F, sunny, skies so blue....unbelievably gorgeous day again today. I forced myself to get out, even tho I felt crappy this morning. I ran 2 miles and took two walk breaks to rest my comprosmised vestibular system. I get weak and shaky when I overdo it, which is just one of the lovely characteristics of inner ear infection. Bumpy terrain, too much visual stuff going on in the periphery seem to overwhelm the system, on top of just plain motion. I think I'm going to look for a track to run at so that I can stop and be close to my car whenever it gets to be too much. I did have a nice sweat going by the end and that felt good! Awww Eugene....they say you never forget your first... Smile

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

Now that the weather has gotten nicer my DW and I have been threating to play hooky some day........... I finally gotten around to opening a corporte wide e-mail. Because of the of the "imminent pandemic" if we take a sick day we must remain off work for 5 days.......and obtain a doctor's release to come back to work. Shocked Geez So much for the spontaneous day off ! Angry
