Mariposai

Good morning gang. Up early to get ready for a 15 miler. With the rain and thunderstorm we got last night the run promises to be cool. Speaking of thunderstorm, we saw the coolest ones while visiting Maine and VT!

Here is to August and a great month for running and life to all of us and our families!

      Good Morning !

It's a beautiful day here.....a little humid but nothing like it has been.

No running for me this morning.....I had to let contractors in the plant at 6 this morning......coming off two days of a RAGBRAI leg 6am came pretty dang early. It'll be a 10 hour day here.

RAGBRAI was an awesome time. Truely a lifetime type experience. Roch you should have a blast next week!

Erika.....very sad news about the young cyclist.

      Holly.....enjoy your vacation.

      Take care all !

        Good morning,

6.2 miles around the neighborhood w/DW

Hip felt back to normal which is not too bad after yesterday's scare

Off to move DD now,  where did the years go?

        Have a Great Day!

Courage ! Do one brave thing today...then run like hell.

This felt great with 66° drizzle!!

I guess this was a "sneak peek"....Can't wait til fall.

25min HH run at Track........80s.......no wind.....

            ==========

things went wrong as soon as I got there,

forefoot was sore, push-off sorta hurt

and my hip-flexor wrap managed to UNwrap itself.

            then,

all of a sudden I get this Sensation of Lightness...........

            Effortless strides,

            synchronized steps and breathing,

I took my eyes off the track and just FELT the run....

and I wanted it To Last and Last.

I have only worked back up to 25min,

and the hamstring let me know the ride was Over...........BUT IT WAS WONDERFUL

it's been So Long since this has happened I thought it was gone

            but it wasn't.

...................good running guys................or like we used to say .....''.0h w0w.''..........

...if you haven't had this happen,

             I hope you do.

..nothing takes the place of persistence.....

Excellent, tomwhite! I get moments of bliss like that as well. As I've said before, the key is to "remember real good".

Taking a rest day today; that's what SRD means, right? took me a while to figure that one out.... Though my running partner wants to do her longer route today, 6.5 miles or so, in order to measure it exactly. I'm tempted to just lend her my Garmin for today and have her time it herself, because my body is really telling me it needs to luxuriate in some inactivity today. Hmm, decisions, decisions....

Glad to hear the hip pain was a fluke, Sarge. Enjoy your 15-miler, Mari!

              Happy Sunday to all.

good august morning all. thanks for the reminder posie, I better go try to sign up for next year's Tokyo Marathon before it closes. pm me if  anyone else want to come <<<(hotsprings/sushi/pinkhappycoats/banquet/etc)>>>

                .

tom - this year's Torchlight Parade 8K Fun Run was a pirate theme to go along with Seattle's annual Seafair Parade that follows. Somehow, instead of some rinky-dink t-shirt with small print of the event/city on the front and up to 45 sponsors' advertising on the back as in some events, there was a huge skull'n'crossbones on the front and barely the name of the event on the back. There were Pirate Booty potato chips and pint containers of fresh blueberries at the finish too.  I think you better send me your mailing address.

ps - Arthur hasn't been bothering me as much as you but running barefoot naturally forces the softest possible foot-touching.  Maybe you can try it for half-a-lap or something every once-in-a-while.

                ,

Holly - thank you thank you thank you.  A goddess equinox would more than make up for my missing the R'n'R last year so yes for 2012 for sure, even if I have to walk all the way to erika-land.  I was thinking about a 20th anniversary run in 2014 but I'd just be sorry for missing doing it with the goddesses if next year works out for you and any others.

ps - yes/yes if mariposai comes

pps - yes/yes/yes if dove comes

ppps - yes/yes/yes/yes if francesca comes

pppps - yes/yes/yes/yes/yes if ziggie comes

ppppps - yes/yes/yes/yes/yes/yes if any goddess guy comes.

                =========

ps(2)  - I only know what RAW and RAL (and pm)  mean.

I know RAGBRAI is riding around something in Iowa like RAW is the ride around washington.

doesn't matter though as whatever it is, unless it has a "t" for taper in it, I probably don't do it. Smile

pps(2) - do you know what TAW, TAL and TAB mean?)

                .

ps(3) francesca - hurry up and post about White River 50-mile Endurace Run

"Enjoy yourself. Your younger days never come again." 100yo T. Igarashi to me in geta at top of Mt. Fuji (8/2/87)

Nice start off for the month Mari

                  TW,

You are persistant guy. Glad today was one of the good ones.

11.5 in 1:54:05 9:54 ish pace sunny and 75 degrees. This run was one of those that starts off yucky gets good about half way through and then ends up yucky. Hows that for a scientific  description of my run?  Nothing special just putting in the miles. I do have a 10 mile race late this month I suppose I should use that as motivation to speed things up a bit over the next few weeks.

Good runs and races for those who follow

tomwhite.. that was awesome!  I know exactly what you mean!

May you have many more (and longer)

Just finished 30 min pool running including 10x30 sec "sprints". Everything is all loose and feeling good now. That is a most excellent way to stretch dynamically. The range of motion in the water is great so you can really stretch out strides and force resistance with the water.  70° air temp, so refreshing in the water!

Quick fly by post. 16 miles this morning with last 3 at MP. Plus 3 miles up the hill walking with Mr.Posie.

It was hot and humid...humid is relative I have been told. Very happy with this workout. Strong finish after some MP paces yesterday. This ends a 44 mile week for me. The longest weekly run since before my spring marathon.

Can't wait to read Francesca's RR.

Goodie, Tetsujin is in for Equinox also!!! hurray!!!!

                        Sweet running and walking Maraposai

17 miles for me today including a 10 mile race---Sea Legs Shuffle in Guilford, CT----on the Sound and beautiful course with lots of ocean views, Rolling hills and a new PR of 1:09:40 (6:58 pace). Dr. J hit a PR as well with a 1:17 so a fun morning all around. We missed the award ceremony since we were running bonus miles only to come back to the start/finish area and see that I was listed as a male. I spoke with the race director and hope the official results will reflect the real deal. I placed 3rd in the 40-49 category but no prize since they were all distributed---no matter. Guess growing my hair long isn't enough!  Where's that Erik van Flein? George as a last name apparently confused

the CT. folks! Very happy actually since I didn't taper and felt strong the whole way.

                        Magical or Mystical....it's all good.

Good morning! It is warming up again a bit but not bad.

Great race, Karin!  Maybe they got your name backwards!

DH and I finally got out for a long hike together yesterday.  We did a traverse of the Bond range in NH. The peaks are all in the Pemigiwasset Wilderness and the area around the Bonds is one of the most beautiful in the White Mountains.  From any of the three summits, you can see only mountains, no roads and  no buildings with the exception of the observatory/ summit towers on Mt. Washington.   It is  one of the most remote areas.  It is a long day from either direction.  We left Manchester around 6:40 a.m., dropped a car at Lincoln Woods then drove up to the Zealand Trailhead near Twin Mountain to start the hike. Started hiking around 9 a.m., traversed over Mt Guyot and all three Bonds ( W. Bond, Bond and Bondcliff) and got done around 7:40 p.m. ( then had to go get the other car and drive home)  About 19.5 miles of hiking, most on pretty moderate trails, but there is plenty of up and down.   For some odd reason there are good supplies of wild blueberries on the Bondcliff  summit area, in a year with a very poor wild blueberry crop elsewhere.

Feet and ankles are sore today but legs seem ok. No long run this weekend, but I did manage 10 on the Massabesic Rail trail and felt better than I expected.

Sub 7's for 17 miles, in the heat!  Awesome Karin!

Happy for tomwhite and his magical run.

20 miles for me (and I can really tell you about heat!), but it was okay as it was not humid at all.  Spareribs

Popping in to say congrats to CNY!! I ran this last year (nice shirt, huh?) and really liked it. My neighbor tried to get me to go this year and just cover the miles, but I didn't trust myself to do that. I'm making good progress and don't want to mess that up. He ran though and did ok.

JB Sports does a great job with their races. I'm sure they'll fix the results.

Congrats and to Dr. J too!

                              Marathon Maniac #957

                                TomWhite – excellent!

                                Mariposai - nice fast-finish LR!

Tet – not 2012, though, we’re talking 2011….I can’t wrap my mind around anything beyond that….

CNYrunner – congratulations on your new 10-mile PR!!!  Sorry you missed your prize, though….

Spareribs – I know YOU know about heat down there in Dallas….I notice you’re getting some nice mileage in spite of it this summer.

I had my alarm set for 5am so I could get my 20-miler in before my great-nephews’ birthday party, but when I woke up at 4am I decided to make use of the time and get up.  Still 71° and 93% even that early, but not too bad, just mostly clammy-feeling in the dark.

20 miles slower than dirt (ave pace 10:35), although I was questioning the accuracy of the garmin readings in the early miles when I felt like I was running at a decent clip but getting 11:XX pace readings, so who really knows, but I know I ran a faster second half, if not actually very fast.  I'm not really worried about pace yet, anyway.  I have time yet to bring that down.  Just to add extra punishment, after running up the long hill home, I looped around another mile and ran up it again.  Okay, maybe staggered up it is more like it.  I have a feeling the Monkey is going to eat me alive…

The ORRRC annual picnic is this evening, and I thought I would take the dogs and kids and go (DH is not interested in going to an event involving runners – “all you guys will do is talk about running stuff”).  Although I am a member of ORRRC, I have barely gotten to know anyone, so I should try to get more involved.  Then Alice in Wonderland for our family movie tonight.

                                Happy Sunday!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
