I have only a trip bike that I train and race with. A friend of mine is giving me his road bike (trek). I am thinking of putting it on my indoor trainer and using it instead of tri bike (while on trainer). If I put some aero bars...do you think that would be good for indoor training? Plus i wouldn't have to swap out my bike to go outside.
Fitness/weight goals for 2014
1) STAY INJURY FREE!!!
2) Get to 189 lbs by the end of July 2014...and stay there (as of 4-25-14 was at 203 lbs)
3) Complete Ironman Chattanooga in under 14 hours
4) Break 4 hours in a stand alone marathon (Goal race=Rocket City 12/13/14)
5) 4,500 total overall miles for the year:
Swim: 100 miles
Bike: 3,000 miles
Run: 1,400 miles
It all comes down to time in the saddle, right? I have a road bike with tri bars fitted on it. That's all I have for riding and racing other than a mountain bike. The tri bars will be fine but realize that you probably won't be able to replicate the aggressive drop/fit of a tri bike. You'll be good.
Yes, for a trainer, a 2nd bike is great. It doesn't have to be a tri bike to be a great bike for a trainer. The beauty of the trainer is having the constant watts and effort without the coasting along the roads.
You don't need a tri bike to put in solid effort.
#1: Do what I can do (250+ training days, 300+ aerobic hours).
#2: Race shape - BUILD aerobic base
#3: Race (Cincinnati MiniMarathon - 3/18, Grand Rapids 70.3 Tri - 6/10, Ironman Florida - 11/2)
