Notes

first 8k and first college xc race ever. feel pretty good about it overall after only running for the last 1.5 weeks and being able to run as fast as i did. i know i can improve a shit ton so i can still make something out of this season. i just need to keep doing what im doing and keep trusting that works because thus far it definitely has. the open race was quite different than the team race. there were a lot less people and obviously everyone besides our team sucked ass. the race started out and i got good position behind our guys but we were ahead of everyone so i settled pretty quickly. there were a couple of guys ahead of us but they ran their own race. i settled in with our guys behind brady and for the whole race i was among that group. i wasnt really in control in terms of making moves, but i will get to that point after some consistency running. we went through the mile in 5:00. other splits were 1k (3:06.1), 2k (6:15.1), 3.95k (12:29.1), 4.95k(15:42.3) and 6.9k(22:03). i almost fell off of our pack numerous times, often dropping a good 10ish meters back before telling myself i cant fucking drop off them. i need to stay with them or ill get destroyed by the wind. every time this happened, i mentally engaged and was able to easily catch back up. this is one reason why i know i can go faster once i get more used to the 8k. i was definitely trying to be conservative today since it was my first one and i didnt want to make a move that would end my race badly. like i said before, it was a great start for me and i think i was a happy surprise to the coaches who saw me and a few other guys run well and add depth to the team. i am very excited to see how the rest of the season pans out. for now, i plan on doing the same training as before with the next race being conference
