8xHerrick Lake loops

10 mile tempo workout day for the NCC guys. met them over at herrick and i just did a brief jog across the lake and then some dynamics so i didnt have a huge warm up. First run in the new peg turbos. Me not running the first few days this week definitely put my body in a not ideal state, but i made the most of how i felt. The workout was modified this year to be 12 loops around the lake for the 10 miles rather than a warmup throughout all of herrick for the first 5 miles. Since i wasn't doing the full thing, didnt really matter to me. I did not feel good from the beginning. i was at the back of the front pack and by 3 loops in i felt like i was kinda getting dropped. We did start out faster than normal with the 5:49 first mile and were running 520-530s before 6loops in. I wasnt expecting it to be that quick from the start and obviously im not in the best shape ever so i struggled a bit. tried staying engaged and would move up in the pack to shake things up with my body. at the end of lap 6, i moved up to the front of the pack because smokey had just taken off and i lead the charge to reconnect the group with gabe and then try to keep smoke close since the "tempo portion" of the run had just started and they got separated immediately. i ended up running in front of that group for laps 7 and 8 to give them a good gauge on pace. called it after 8 loops. Realistically, i wouldn't have made it much further without slowing down dramatically. My legs were starting to tighten up on me pretty bad during the final loop and my HR had been above 195 since the 5th loop. Literally half of this run (loops 5-8) my average HR was 199-200. I had progressed each loop through 7 and loop 8 was a bit slower. I also lied to myself and told myself that i was only doing 7 loops and then just kept running so that also probably explains why my HR was so high the last loop (avg 203 and max 207 haha). Good to get a solid effort in because for me these have been to few and far in between since i graduated.
