Notes
Pain = 2/10.
Unfortunately not pain free but could have been worse. Felt it almost immediately. Feels decent after, I think I should be safe to give it another go on Thursday and just progress based on how its feeling.
Want to jot down a few thoughts on this injury because I'm still really confused on what this even is. There are a few different options for what I think it could be so gonna list out the evidence for and against each and see if that helps.
Proximal Hamstring Tendonitis:
For:
- Pain occurs in exact area (at the attachment point of the tendon on the ischial tuberosity)
- Onset of symptoms align with increase in speed (strides) and hill running (started doing hills at the bridge after tempos which is something I hadn't done since moving to chs)
Against:
- Cannot reproduce pain by stretching / working hamstring
- Been doing rehab exercises for this over the last few weeks with little improvement (and never any pain while doing them)
Ischial Tuberosity Stress Fracture:
For:
- Pain occurs in exact area
- I'm scared
Against:
- No pain with palpation of bone (as far as I can tell)
- No pain at rest
- Rare at this location
- Have felt pain occasionally doing kicking drills in the pool (this one really rules out stress fracture in my head)
Impingement: (needs more research)
For:
- Pain could present in the area although not as likely
- X-Rays show my femoral head is all kinds of fucked up
Against:
- Negative on all clinical tests
Sciatica: an outlier of a possibility, haven't really looked into it much but the pain doesn't really radiate like you would expect nerve pain to.
After writing these out I think my new leading theory is impingement. Definitely ruling out stress fracture. Tendonitis is less likely as it has not responded to rehab. If it is impingement I should be able to slowly build staying under a pain threshold. We'll see if I can make any progress on that front.
