Notes

My glute was bothering me after yesterday's run and I didn't want to push it so I'm going to try to alternate days of cross-training with days of running this week and see how things go from there. Listened to a John Wooden audiobook during the session and reflected on my own fitness journey and philosophy around sport. I feel like I had an epiphany as I stared out the window at Bear Peak on the horizon. My goals are far off and daunting when I consider my current position, just as the mountain sits on the horizon; long way away and a great height to reach when I reach its base. Juxtaposed is the brick enclosure of the dumpsters directly in front of me with the rising sun casting a shadow on the side. As I started, the shadow shaded the entire brick formation but the painfully slow movement of the sun was unrelenting as I monitored its progress. I was so focused on the movement of the sun and preoccupied with its progress that I would only occasionally shift my gaze to the mountaintop. I will spend more time watching the shifting sun so to speak in my day-to-day journey than I will stare at the end goal but both are ever-present and offer a reminder to be where I'm at and not get too ahead of myself. Keep the big goals in mind and use the small daily wins to get there.
