Notes

2 years in a row for me here and I really like this race. A few too many beers last night with the Double Chocolate Stout and Dead Guy and not a ton of sleep, but overall feeling pretty good this am and my stomach was fine (unlike last year). It was cool out but my warm up was nice and slow but I never cooled down waiting around for the start. My legs have felt the same way for the last 3 years which means they always feel heavy which is the new normal. At the start I started off slower than normally which was perfect and actually around 7ish for the .25 or so before gradually hitting 6:30. I slowed down some for mile 2 and was never able to get back under 6:30. Halfway through mile 3 I really felt the big fade and was running just under 7 before beginning my push. The last half of mile 3 was better and I thought I still had a chance after hitting 3 miles on the watch at 19:46 (I actually thought I was at 19:41). I thought I had a chance at the PR at this point and really started to pick it up. About 30 yards before the finish line I can feel my stomach recoil like I was going to throw up. I did kind of a dry heave type thing without the awful noise. Gather myself but slowed way down, and then it happened again before the finish line. As soon as I crossed the finish line I lean over and do the same thing. No puke though. I should probably be pissed at this time but the reality is that while it was wasn’t my day I gave it everything I had at the end to finish hard and would have come damn close to my PR if I didn’t have the dry heave issues. Regardless, it’s my 3rd best 5k and I’m now consistently between 20:22 – and 20:42. Maybe I go sub 20 next year. Who knows. Onward.

Breakaway 5k - Sub 20 or PR

Comments

L Train

You need a 5K in late November a month after Baystate.

Greg C

I believe the FreeFall 5k fits that criteria quite nicely.

Rob_K

I think a sub 20 is doable, just gotta hit the right race on the right day... while not in the middle of marathon prep.

Egad

Nice race Steve. You are only 3 weeks removed from a marathon and still training so this is nothing to scoff at. My turn next weekend.
