Abbott MTN

Notes

This run was definitely memorable and deserves a write up. It beat me up pretty good. Doug didn’t tell us where we were headed but there was evil in his voice. I’ve never been on the trails around his house and it was pretty awesome. Not a huge fan of the sand but this fluctuated between trails and dirt roads. Early on the guys pulled ahead of me and I ran from behind a good portion of the day. Once we got to Abbott MTN and the hill started we stayed together for the climb and that was awesome. Rocky, pretty significant climb and the 3 of us did a lot of fast hiking because of the elevation. When we got to the top the temperature completely changed and we stopped for a minute to catch our breath and I was little dizzy. The fog was so bad you couldn’t see anything. The way down was really cool. Doug took off and I was never more than 5 feet behind with a good part of the run right in his pocket (in retrospect not very smart). We were flying down the trail and doing the short choppy step, football style quick foot drill down the mountain. Very intense but super fun. Once we got out back on the trails Doug took off again and the 3 of us were separated by probably 30 seconds with Doug in front, me in the middle, and then Mike. Once we hit the dirt roads the guys got ahead of me again. I was definitely smoked and pretty beat up, and was pulled along. With about 2 to go I finally caught the guys and the pace picked up a bit. Heading in to the last section of hills on the pavement I picked it up and pulled ahead a bit. I could feel one of the guys on my shoulders but I couldn’t so much as hear footsteps. Mike pulled along the side of me like a ninja, passed me, and then picked it up for a strong finish and it looked effortless. Tough run but fun as hell. Doug is a beast on the trails and Mike is a cyborg. This was the hardest run I’ve had in a long time and I slept well last night.
