Notes

After a Saturday of 3 games at Wheaton, and then some time in the motherland today with my family, we got outside around 7:30 and got some 1-1 and HORSE in. The rules tonight were no OOB, only 3 dribbles, and you checked everything on a change of possession. The goal was to force the boy to get his shot off quick with limited dribbling to emphasize catch and shoot, pull-ups, floaters, and using his body if he got by me. Because we only played to 5 (win by 2), it made the game more interesting. I was trying to emphasize the idea of "hand down man down" so he would shoot when he had an opening and would often play defense with my hands down to get him to shoot from the outside. Like always, first game was an experiment, and game 2 was more interesting. He learned this weekend against team from Queens, Brookline, and New Bedford that he can break individual defenders down because of his handle and ability to score thru the 4 ways we always talk about. He played well at times this weekend, overmatched at other, but had a few plays where these city kids were like, "oh....ok". Deep 3s, and a couple of nasty shakes, losing his defenders in process for a reverse layup. Good stuff. His take away this weekend was "I've got to get in the gym to get stronger". Smart kid.

Suddenly I want to punch Mark Jackson in the neck. Otherwise I heartily approve.
