Late arvo from the campground along the road to Pinnacle Rock. Rough, rocky road with a few little hills, flanked either side with the typical scrubby rock outcrops of the area. All red dirt and yellow grass and paddy melons along the side f the road. About 3.5-4km out along this road is the turn to the rock.
The Pinnacle is a big, red smooth rock about 15m high that catches the late sun and glows red, surrounded by shadowed hills.
The return track was the pearl of this run., along the Mawson trail. 3.8km of single track winding through the rugged hills.
It started by skirting around the Pinnacle on a rocky slope then briefly along a dry creek bed with soft sand, up and out and back in again.
Continued up and down with rough, loose rocks, sharp little climbs and spinifex and low scrub, surrounded by the red hills of Arkaroola. I don't write well enough to do it justice. A fantastic trail run.
