Rosaryville Off Road Half Marathon

Race #3 for 2014

A local trail race in the neighborhood of Jug Bay…Not exactly sure what to expect after missing so much training time this month and especially the last ten days or so.

Woke up after 5am and got myself together…Quiet ride to the park with some mint tea…arrived in plenty of time for packet pick-up and prep for the race…

Listened to instructions and the race went off promptly at 8am…course was in great condition…well-trod and hardly any mud to speak of…

Conditions at the start were a stark contrast from yesterday’s spring time 73 degree day…mostly cloudy skies with some filtered sun and a cold temp of 38 degrees…ran in shorts anyway with a couple of lond-sleeve layers and my 26.2 hat…

Started slow as I adjusted to the twisting trail and hills…took me about 4 to 5 miles before I settled on a groove and proceeded to get stronger form there…had an annoying guy breathing heavily down my neck for a while – he wouldn’t pass me even though I encouraged me to go around me…finally ditched him at the mile 5 aid station…vegan strong on his back…

Continued to gain strength in the middle distance miles with the aid of my magic potion (tangerine gu!)…by the last couple of miles I was picking off runners in numbers and even caught and passed Mr. Vegan going up a hill…ran a sub 10 minute final mile…

My unofficial Garmin time read 2hrs 16min 27secs…was looking to beat 2hrs 20min…so that’s a win!

Ex2 Adventures puts on a great race…well-organized with ample support…look forward to their next off road half marathon in May at Fountain Head Park…

Ten Miler: 9/50

Recovered with a warm slice of pizza and later a Tall Boy Budweiser

Running is fun!
