Notes

Leesburg 20k as a marathon pace run. That's my official time, which comes out to 6:49 pace on McMillan or 6:50 on the results page. Occasional very light rain, somewhat muggy (more than last year) but not terribly so, and cool but not as cool as last year. Yesterday's migraine took a lot out of me, and I probably would have skipped this if it were a real race. I felt pretty good for the first 5 miles or so, which are uphill. Then I ate a gel after water at 6 miles. It bothered my stomach some and I was feeling bad after the turn-around. My hip, back, and butt muscles started tightening up, and my stomach took a while to recover. After a slow mile up a hill, I was barely able to get back down to marathon pace for the rest of the race. The last few miles were not pleasant, but that's how it will feel at the end of a marathon. It was good to be reminded of that feeling, but I hope it was the migraine that made me this weak today. Anyway, I need to hit this pace more often in training and practice taking gels more on the run.
