Notes

First run after the peroneal muscles and tendons injury to my left foot/ankle, which is what I think it was. I still think it was caused by a combination of tying my new shoes too tightly, running the half marathon race too fast without taking more time off afterwards, and the stress of finishing my paper last week. In other words, I didn't just twist my ankle on Saturday and not notice it. I rested, iced, and took ibuprofen for two days. Today I ran in the other (previous unused) pair of new shoes, which I tied very loosely. Everything seemed fine. Sometimes I would feel some tightness above my ankle and a little (but not all the way) toward the back - on both legs, actually. But this never amounted to pain. I don't know if this is related, but towards the end of the run the left side of my lower back hurt. Maybe my gait is different because I'm protecting my left ankle? Anyway, I had endless energy and could have run much faster much longer, but obviously I reeled it in because of my foot. Then, my god, just before I was about to stop, I stepped on a rock in the road and actually rolled my left ankle! It seems to have recovered ok after I walked it off (but didn't run anymore). I iced my entire lower leg right after getting home and will keep off it today, take more ibuprofen, and ice again later.
