Notes

Wasn't at all sure what to expect today. Probably the most unprepared i have been entering a race in a very long time. My plan was to just get out and run well as long as i could until I fell apart, then wait for Amy and jog it in.

I read Krump's log and i can confirm that this race was a piece of shit. It will definitely be the last time i go down for this one. It used to be one of my favorites, but it is not worth the hassle to get it in and quite honestly the course couldn't be more boring.

Anyway, we got down there and had to walk forever to get near the start. Amy had to use the bathroom so i went and stood in line with her until i realized the race was about to start in 10 minutes. I headed over to the start through the field of mud and got on the line with a couple minutes to spare. The gun went off and i just went after it. The leaders split into 2 groups and i was leading the second pack with Bryan Runyon and Eric Lesch. We stayed pretty consistent through 5 miles in about 27:35. I started to question whether i could keep the pace the whole way so i backed it down to 5:40's. Tried to hold that pace through the turnaround. There were a couple of mile markers that were off, but they seemed to even out. Saw Krump not too far back at the turn and i figured he would be catching up. I hooked up with a mexican guy that was in our pack and the two of us had a good groove going. He started to drop off around 10.5 so i yelled back to him and put my hand out. He came charging up and we really started rolling from 11 on in.

Overall, i must say i was pretty happy to run what i did in the wind and the rain. Maybe i should just take the next few weeks off...just kidding.
