Notes

I kept hearing all of the hype this week about who was going to run what. Supposedly there were going to be several guys running between 2:30 and 2:33 so i decided we would find out who was for real and who wasn't right from the gun. I shot off the starting line and hit the mile in 5:34. I was completely alone and ran the next 25 miles in that same manor. I averaged 5:45 pretty much the whole way. The TV cameras came up on me on mile 10 and followed me for a while. They must have inspired something because i hit that mile in 5:38. Other than that the race went pretty much how i had planned it. I wanted to hit the half right at 1:15 and i went through at 1:15:02. I held pace through about 21 miles and slowed a bit into the low 5:50s for a couple miles. I closed in 5:45, 5:46 for my last 2 which was really nice. I thought someone was right behind me, but i couldn't tell since we were running around all of the half marathoners for the last 8 miles. I pushed through the line and crossed in 2:31:13, a PR for me.

Splits: 5:35, 5:47, 5:46, 5:42, 5:40, 5:44, 5:45, 5:43, 5:43, 5:46, 5:38, 5:44, 5:45, 5:45, 5:50, 5:47, 5:46, 5:46, 5:52, 5:49, 5:43, 5:55, 5:55, 5:55, 5:44, 5:46, 1:33.

I was really happy to win the race (scond was about 3.5 minutes back) and to PR this early in the season. I ran tough and ran alone the entire race. Looking to get back to training and run 2:28 this fall at Chicago.

Mark ran well today too. He had some stomach problems at mile 17 and wasn't able to take fluids after that which will cause some problems the last 8 miles. He still was able to run a PR by 7 minutes, which is just amazing to me. He is totally my hero.
