Notes

Had another good experience out in Colorado. Got to hang with Mark and the family for a couple of days and had a decent race too. Before the race I knew Ryan Donovan was going to run right around 2:30 and i also knew there was no way i could hang with that pace. I thought i would just go out decent and see how long i could hold on. I went out with the leaders and by the time i could see the mile marker i looked at my watch and saw 5:14. I slowed down quickly and went through in 5:32. Tried to keep backing off slowly and hit 2 in 5:42. From there i evened out and was in the 5:50s until later in the race. I was in a distant third for most of the race and saw second place starting to come back to me at 17. I caught him just after 19 and fought in the last 10K. I did have some leg cramping the last few miles that i have never really dealt with before. Felt really dehydrated at that point, but could feel the finish so kept pushing on.

Finished 2nd, but got beat by 10 minutes. Would really like to be more competitive next year so hope to use this as motivation. Mark ran well and finished 7th. Here are the splits:

Mile 1 5:32

Mile 2 5:42

Mile 3 5:50

Mile 15 6:03

Mile 16 6:07

Mile 18 6:02

Mile 19 6:20

Mile 20 6:03 (1:59:04)

Mile 21 6:10

Mile 22 6:19

Mile 23 6:22

Mile 24 6:36

Mile 25 6:36

Mile 26 6:50

Good effort overall. Wanted to be under 59 minutes at 10 and under 2 hours for 20. From there it is just holding on. Taking a week off and starting some easy running. Going to get in shape for this marathon in November.
