A nice test of my ability to run slow. I know I'm fit right now so that wasn't a challenge but wanted to give my race strategy a test and see if it's a good one. I think it is. I ran about 7 miles at 7 minute pace and then hopped on the track.

I was thinking that my strategy should be something relatively easy to follow. I want to set my eyes at 160 miles, which is 9:00 miles on the dot. If I run about 8:40s for 2.25 miles and then walk a lap briskly that should put me right around 22:30 for 2.5 miles. 5 miles every 45 minutes, 10/1:30 and 20/3:00 x8 and I'm at 160. I figure I'll probably go out at that pace and just hang on for dear life in the last 8 hours or so. So today I tried to run on the track at that pace and brought some food to test out my strategy. It went alright.

So not the most even, but whatever. It was pretty darn cold and I was underdressed. I think I struggled to hit pace because of this. I found it surprisingly easy to run at 8:30 pace and walk about 3:30-3:45 for the quarter. I ate 2 gus, 2 waffles, and 2 chews during the run. It was a lot but I kind of wanted to overdo it and see how my stomach would feel. Turns out it felt just fine. And I partly ran 3.5 hours because I thought I needed 25 miles to hit 90 for the week. Turns out I needed more than that, but whatever. I was surprised at how easy 25 miles feels at that pace. I know it's a lot to turn 3.5 hours into 24, but today gave me confidence. It was good to run at dusk into night also to get used to running at night.
