Not the race report I was hoping to write. Pretty disappointed with today, mostly because it puts me a couple steps back for my goals.It really seemed doable, but after today it seems unattainable to hit that 2:19. Not sure what else I could've done. My right quad started to hurt pretty quickly and I just knew it was going to be the limiting factor, but I tried not to think too much about it. Once it started to hurt to the point it was affecting my race, I just wanted to hold on as long as I could and hope for a second wind to mercifully release me. But my legs continued to seize up and I really wanted to drop out. I walked at one point and my head was just in a delirious state. Somehow I slogged through the last 7 miles, constantly recalculating how bad my time would be. Frustrating, because I was soooo smooth and consistent through the first 17 miles. Brutal.
Everything otherwise went fine. I woke up at 3:30am, did a shakeout jog. Ate oatmeal, got a ride to the start from my gracious hosts. Had beetroot 1hr out, coffee 20 minutes out, a gel on the starting line. I got a gel at every aid station and mostly took nuun. But I definitely didn't get to take in enough fluids. Really not sure where to go from here.
