Notes

Ah, the loneliness of a long distance runner. I showed up to an empty track at 6pm and started my workout (6x400/600/800 with 1/2 distance recovery and 4 min between each set). About 10 minutes in Kim Loeffler and her training group showed up for their workout. It felt great to be running in parallel with other people. I've been listening to Mario Fraioli's podcast interviews with Jason Ayr, Lou Serafini, Deena Kastor, Scott Fauble, and others and they all talk about these amazing training groups they're a part of, and how if one person's not feeling it they can just hang on to the others in their pace group. I felt the slightest hint of that by just having other people on the track. The workout was over an hour and by the 5th set they had left. The track suddenly felt emptier than when I started. Part of me felt the weight of it, and it made the workout feel harder, but another part of me felt strength knowing that all the work I put in is my own. And in the end I rocked it. My goal was to stay steady through 4 sets, kill it on the 5th and stay strong on the last to simulate the race I'd love to run. And I did just that.
