Going into this I was pretty nervous as all my previous long workouts I've tanked on. Had the overnight last night and didn't sleep very much at all (about 5 super restless hours), plus Friday night I went to bed late and woke up at 6:30 to run 12 miles. So I wasn't feeling particularly well rested and realized right before the workout that I hadn't had anything to drink pretty much all day. My legs felt a sluggish, which I was still surprised by since I've had quite a bit of recovery since my last workout. Yes, so that's the stage for my workout, which I crushed.
First set felt sooooooo easy. Had to hold back. I did strides before hand to just stretch out my legs and I think that made the 5:25 pace feel like a cinch. I wound up hitting 5:05 pace and was really surprised as the effort felt closer to 5:25. I struggled to slow down and ultimately settled into the 5:18/5:19 pace. Kind of dumb that I was slow on the last mile as it wasn't because I was tired physically - I just got caught up doing math in my head and had backed off pace
5:05, 5:20, 5:16, 5:19, 5:18, 5:23
Switched to my Asics for the second set after 10 minutes of rest. I was slow on the first half mile (2:42) - overcompensating I think - and then sped up to 2:31 for the next half before settling in to the 5:14 pace. I wanted to hit sub-5 on the last mile but I would have really been pushing it and already felt at 5:05 pace that I was going smooth and easy yet fast. Didn't have a whole lot left at the end, which was to be expected. Maybe could've hit another half mile at that pace without really pushing it.
5:12, 5:13, 5:15, 5:14, 5:12, 5:05
