An admirable effort. I really wish that the last 3 miles had been different, but that's the way it goes. I did everything as I would day of for the marathon and seemed to be fine. Beetroot an hour out, coffee about 25 minutes out, gel on the line. I lost my bib somehow and had a moment of panic 5 minutes before the start, but got a new number and everything worked out just fine.
The start of the race was cold, low 30s, and windy. The wind steadily picked up, and by the end it was probably close to about 20 mph. My first 10 miles were perfect (51:12, which is a huge PR). I felt so smooth and consistent (despite the wind), and it didn't feel like much of an effort at all. And then the course loops back towards the start and there was a monster headwind. I find it disproportionately harder to run into the wind, and I struggled to keep pushing myself. I lost almost a minute in the last 5k, which was really frustrating, because I was otherwise on pace for a huge PR. Otherwise, not much to say. Really happy with the effort, particularly coming off of such a long exhausting training block. I can't wait for the taper, let my legs get back to fresh and then CIM in 3 weeks!
