AT Tempo Run [7:32 pace p mi adj for heat]
88 deg / 48% H [66 DP]. Brutally hot w/a light breeze. CLT Runners Tue nite run - Booty Loop (got there 15 min late & missed group). Started out w/out foot pain. Felt much better vs. yesterday, and legs felt much better vs. prior two Tuesday runs although I could quickly feel the oppressive heat. Upon running up Queens tried to throttle down speed as I began to feel hotter (and sweat). Along Selwyn tried to fine tune pace to stay below "heat exhaustion" threshold and as I rounded around Queens as I hit mile 3 shorts were soaked, started feeling sick to my stomach and my cue to take a break or risk heat exhaustion. Looked at watch when I stopped, saw 8:04 and figured that was 7:40 pace adjusted for heat. When I resumed felt worse, could feel my feet were wet (which means tape was wet underneath), and just focused on keeping one foot in front of another. I could feel myself heating up again...surprised I was able to pound out consistent splits. At 5 miles stopped for water (was really hot again), after spritzing I took off -- felt terrible, felt hot, somewhat sick to my stomach fr the heat, but surprised myself at running the final 1k at 6:55 pace (vs. 7:17 pace last week) -- felt stronger this week.
