GVSU Big Meet Open 3K Heat 2
Going into this, I was feeling really nervous. Wasn't sure what I was capable of hitting Figured I'd just stick my nose in there and see what happened. Was seeded in the middle of heat 2 with Choi, with everyone in the heat looking for sub 9. Gun went off and got out relaxed, near the back of the pack with David. Hit the 300 and knew we were a little slow already. Slowly moved up over the next few laps and got into position right at the back of the lead group. About 4-5 laps in, the pace started lagging a bit and David went to the front to do the work. This is the point where the lead group split and I lost contact with the leaders. Stayed calm and relaxed though and moved around my group. Made a surge to get back up to the leaders, but about half-way there I ran out of steam and got caught in no-man's land. With about a k to go, to guys from West Texas rolled up on me, so I latched on and tried to ride them up. Again, ran out of steam before I could reach the leaders though. Spent the last two laps trying my best to kick and finish well. Caught two dudes from Ferris State, but otherwise had no one to shoot for.
Overall, I'm ok with this race. I'm disappointed in the time on such a fast track, but with where my fitness is right now, I'll have to take it. Tactically, I ran pretty well, I just didn't have the legs to follow through with the moves I wanted to make. It'll be a different story in two weeks at Club Relays!
Fun weekend with the GVSU skwad tho. We had a fun car ride and some great performances at the meet.
