Wascally Wabbit 2019

Loop 1 (3:04:00)

Ran with Anthony and Kent. Felt OK, but not great. The loop didn't feel as easy as it should have, but I still finished it a bit faster than last year.

Loop 2 (3:25:00 with a 15 minute stop before the loop)

Took my time at the turn around to wait for Anthony, he had to use the bathroom and I wasn't in that much of a hurry. Stayed with Anthony and Kent, felt like Anthony was moving a bit slower than I wanted to go, but didn't mind the pace. Got a stitch in my back during the 2nd third of the loop, had to stop a few times to stretch it out, hoping that it wouldn't keep up. About 2/3rds of the way through I started feeling better and apparently Anthony did too, he took off when Kent stopped to clear his shoes out. I kept going expecting Kent to catch up with me, I was no longer in the mood to stop. Anthony quickly got out of sight, Kent never caught up. Saw Ryan on the road waiting for a drive back to the start/finish, he was cramping and pulled the plug, he declined to pace me for the last lap. =P

Loop 3 (3:34:00 with a 5 minute stop before the loop)

Met Anthony at the Start/Finish, I was 5-10 minutes behind him. I was feeling better than I had been, so I turned over pretty quick, Anthony left 2-3 minutes before I did. I was hoping to see him, and maybe catch him on the road, but he was out of sight even before I started, he powered up the road. After the first big descent I started to slow down quite a bit, the 7 hours of running was catching up with me. I continued to shuffle along walking the hills, running the flats and downs. Got to the cabin at 14k in to the loop 10+ minutes behind Anthony, I knew I wasn't going to catch him. Hiked up the big climb, got frustrated at the mud holes and finally got out of the woods. I ran the last 5k of dirt road at about 5:30/km pace, my feet hurt too much to allow for a quicker pace.

10:24:53. 2 minutes slower than last year, 26 minutes behind Anthony. 4th of 30 starters. Not bad, I was hoping to finish about 20 minutes faster, but I did waste 10 minutes after the first loop, so I guess I wasn't too far off.
