Well, that didn't go too well. With the extreme temps today (96 w/ heat index 115 midday), I figured I needed to hold off as long as possible (provided I didn't want another treadmill run) seeing as the only reprieve you get around here is the bit when the sun goes down. BUT, not so much a fan of the 9-9:30 dinners when I sleep at 10, so figured I'd try eating beforehand. Unfortunately didn't have anything made, so I had to cook and ended up eating later than I meant to. Ultimately, still plenty hot and dinner sat like a rock in the stomach... that's tonight's sob story.

The bigger sob story is how best to handle higher miles in this weather. I would have to start my main run before 4:30am if I chose the morning route (plus be tired at work), or just put up with these crazy conditions in the evening and continue with this wonky eat/sleep schedule. OR, fluid like crazy (already hydrate very well, though), and just keep a easy easy pace at an earlier time (body adapts?). Maybe if I try today's strategy again, but eat RIGHT AWAY (~5:30) and run two hours later instead of one... it's possible. But then am I losing much from not having a main meal after running? Oy.

Just think-typing out loud, don't mind me.

Also I'm not worried about EVERY day, just the crazy ones like today. Others I can manage.

Best strategy is to eat something small as soon as you get home and run 1-2 hours later. Still gonna be hot, but you're not gonna get a heat bump bein a wimp. Also, settling for a 4 mile run early and another short run in the afternoon, you can get in the miles at least.

Or drive down to the beach to run, its always cooler/breezy there

Well my concern with food wasn't that I was getting too hungry, it was eating so close to bed. So if I eat small before and run later, I still eat a bigger meal really close to bed. Probably not a huge deal, though. I think I'm just going to run straight from work in the trails on the naval base. I'll just keep it as easy as I need to not die.

Also I plan to double in the mornings anyway eventually so I can't necessarily split my main run in two like that

I'm not sure I understand the problem, but I think you should run during your lunch break while you eat.

DAMN it was right in front of me the whole time!
