Not really a classic progression as much as a step-change... Would probably benefit more from a faster workout than this but after skipping yesterday I definitely wanted to get a MLR in so here we are. Started this training block loosely going from JD's plan but the marathon kind of derailed that so now I'm picking and choosing between workouts from around this time last year, JD, and whatever else I feel like... this falls under 1 and 3. Plan was 8 around 7 flat and 4 between 5:50 and 5:55... got there no problem but gotta say, the middle 4 did not feel as perky as I would have liked. Yeah, was still trying to hold back, but contrast to last week's MLR and there's definitely a disparity in pace for what seemed like the same effort. Oh well! Some days just feel better than others. Last 4 I was shooting for that steadyish/HMish zone... felt pretty good considering the previous few miles. Just did an out and back twice so lost momentum a few times turning around but nbd. They passed pretty quickly, grooved along pretty well. Breathing felt a little shallow but legs woke up.

50/50 on an 8k on Saturday...

Pros: I enjoy 8ks and haven't done one in a while (even counting 5mi races it's been a year), the course is fast + scenic, itching to race a bit

Cons: Weak/small race (usually only about 100 people, maybe 1 guy in the 26s but the rest over 29), more competitive 5k/10k the week after, might benefit more from an I or R workout

Chris mentioned he might run it (he's typically the one fast guy at this race recently) but that doesn't really help me much since I can't really hang with him. PR is probably out of the question but sub-27 should be doable. I'll probably do it anyway since it's the most enjoyable way to get some hard work in but we'll see.
