Notes

I was really half-marathon ready; full, not so much. I felt surprisingly good during the first fourteen miles, considering I didn't feel very good when I got out of bed. So, there was no question at that point of cutting it to a half. At about mile eighteen my legs felt like they had run out of steam, and walking had way too much appeal, especially in Holmes Park. Cognitive function was pretty biased toward the walking option. One might say I had a mental breakdown. Passing mile 20, though, I began to realize that I didn't have a great distance to go, and I managed to make myself run for most of it. I think I ran pretty impressively across the stadium field :-).

Took Gatorade at most opportunities. Had water as well; one GU packet around mile 18; orange segments; one Twizzler provided good excuse to walk while chewing it. Potty at Normal & South.

I enjoyed all the support, anonymous as well as from DW, Ann R (in four places!), Chris DeHeer, Jeff Harford, Marty Kliewer, Shirley Speer.

So, my time was abysmal, but with the bronchitis, I had moderated my goal to being a finisher. I'm not complaining. I feel pretty good about it, actually. It was fun, believe it or not.
