Vedauvoo with Rebel and Emma!

After an abortive attempt last night, we got to Cornelius(5.5) first. It was a good warmup and re-acquaintance with climbing. Then Easy Jam (5.4) to do some hand jams. I then led Cornelius pretty easily.

Next was Mother 1(5.7+) that Emma led. The beginning of off-width and a beginning of bloodied ankles, arms, and back. I did "lead" the potato chip (5.2).

Final climbs of the "morning" were 2 pitches of Lower Left (maybe 2nd one was Upper Right?)(5.7). More brutal off-width but I always felt like I was progressing well, it's just that even 5ft feels like I lot of work.

After dinner, we headed to Edward's Crack (2 pitches of 5.7). We had to wait for a duo to finish and also found ourselves with 3 free-soloists. We let them go ahead as we didn't want them with us. I led the bottom pitch which seemed straightforward, and it was after some odd movements off the ground. The only problem was using most of my protection and barely finding spots to build an anchor. It took a bit but I managed.

Emma took the 2nd lead, which was a bit more challenging, as well as difficult to find the anchor. Thankfully she finished before it got too dark since only Rebel and I had headlamps. We simul-climbed quite fast to get to the top (a bit stressful for me as I was lower trying to match Rebel's pace while also knowing my fall would cause his). I found the rappel anchors and we descended.

Annnd then we stopped descending. Pulling the rope through the bolts proved futile as we forgot to untie a knot first, a poor combination of it being dark, rappelling quickly, and assuming someone else would have done it. Rebel came through in the clutch and climbed a nearby corner route to retrieve the rope. We made it to the bottom safely, I for some reason had an extra headlamp for Emma, and we returned to the car with no further issues.
