Notes

Another near 7mile hike, this time above 11,000ft. I forgot how cold it can get this high up. Not that the temperature was that bad, but it got really windy. I had enough clothes, maybe some gloves would have been nice.

I hiked a bit past the summit only to turn around to some dark clouds. There was some rain in the distance (and a few planes mistaken as thunder). After re-summiting, I did start to hear rumbling. About a mile later, I finally saw a lightning strike in the distance.

I decided I should speed up and jogged downhill for a half mile, a short break while the trail flattened and got rocky, followed by another 1/4 mile of jogging. Right as I was hitting the treeline and assumed safety, it happened. No, I didn't get hit by lightning or even rain, but I did twist my right ankle. It didn't seem like that bad of a twist but damn it was a sharp pain for 30sec or so.

I forced my way on and it wasn't too bad. I did take a shortcut (there was a trail) that was much steeper: worse for my ankle but got to my car before the rain hit. The ankle will certainly be stiff tomorrow.

Finished the night with a trip to the only brewery I've been meaning to go to for 8 years, Tommyknocker in Idaho Springs. Probably shouldn't have had 3 beers...
